My wife's office is running office 03 but is upgrading to Vista in a few months and they've all been told they can have both on their laptops (to see the changes) if they can find a way of getting the Vista version to install rather than updated ?

I have a feeling that it can't do done ? But anyone know better ?

(They have licences for both so there's no issue there).

If simply installing both apps side-by-side doesn't work, installing Office 03 under a virtual machine running XP would be what I'd do. VirtualPC is a free download from Microsoft, XP, well, you;ll probably find a license somewhere.

it should work with no problems. I have both running at work along with Access 97 and 2000, and the only annoying thing is that in Excel it always automatically open a spreadsheet with whatever version of excel was installed last, in my case, 2007

This is exactly what I was wondering last night, I use 2007 on my machines, but I'm learning databases at college and they use 2003, so I installed Access 2003, now when I try to open 2007 I get some installer thing come up.

in office 07 you have the choice to save as office 03, then files can be opened in other versions of office, so no need to install both of them......

Ditto. In any event I thought MS detected previous versions when upgrading and erased them.

You can set Save default to Office 2003 .doc format

My problem is that the text books I'm using are for 2003, so when I try and follow things in 2007 it just doesn't make sense to me lol

File compatibility isn't the issue. She need to use 03 at work for the moment, they've got the licences for both, but their not meant to use the Vista edition until the systems are upgraded to Vista in a few months.
They'd like to see what 07 looks like and what the differences are...

There is another way to achieve this, but is expensive!

Vmware do a product called VMware ThinApp. You run the monitor during the install and it creates a containerized installation of the application within a set of executables which can be run on any system without the need to install or modify registry or anything else.
I've seen it used to image all versions of Office as well as other applications which can be then run from USB keys or network shares.
