yes
i use a linksys wrt54g without any problems
eventhough i use the livebox's own wireless router functionality, the wrt54g is conencted in order to extend my network (this way i have 2 hubs around the house, livebox and linksys linked by a rj45cable)

You can use any ADSL router you want, you're not restricted to the one your broadband provider give you.

could i use the netgear without the livebox? or would i have to have them connected? also if i do it this way. can i just connect to the netgear using that security etc and would it be directly connected to the livebox?

you can use the netgear without the livebox, problem is that you woun't have internet then
you can use the livebox and netgear, keeping the netgear as your wireless router: so all secuirty will be managed at netgear, and the livebox will be transparent to anything connecting to the wireless network or internet for that matter

I dunno...ur Livebox does sound a bit fishy...

Have you been pressing the "1" button before you try and connect?

incorrect

i got fed up of my livebox's rubbish attempts at wifi, so bought a netgear router, swapped them over and have brilliant wifi signal.

my main house phone connection is upstairs, so this is where i have put my netgear router, but i am looking to have a wired connection upstairs and downstairs, so could i put the livebox on the main connection upstairs and the netgear on the extension downstairs? can i link the two in series?
