Anyone know the law around using alcohol as a tombola price?

Having a tombola stall soon for charity am I allowed to offer alcohol as a prize.

Seems from research that you can if it is in sealed containers and it is not the main fundraiser - such as at a fete. in my case it will be the main (only) fundraiser so can I offer it if I apply for a license?

Can't see the police arresting you for it.

We've done it for years, but not given to unaccompanied children under 18 years old.

yes same here except, if a child wins I would keep it and drink it, if the child insists on their prize drink the contents and give them the bottle

We did a tom bola at school once, and if a child won a bottle. They could have it if their was a grownup with them. If there was no grownup, we had a box of great gift's for the kid's that they could chose from.

i got given a bottle of port when i was 15 from a tombola and had no parent with but because i h8 port gave it too my dad anyway lol

If in doubt telephone the local Council and ask for the licensing department, and they will have the answer to your questions. Usually private applications to sell (not sure about a raffle*) alcohol at a public event usually requires submitting to the Council and then Police for approval.

At a school fete, they had an alcohol tombola - as well as a "random" tobola.

As long as you sell the tickets to adults and give the prize to an adult, it seems fine and was a very popular fund-raiser!

We do it for our PTA tombolas at Christmas with no licence. You only need a licence if you are selling the alcohol not a ticket . Obviously dont give it to a child, or get parent to claim it
