Anyone know what chip this is inside my Chipped Wii

Found 30th Sep 2008
I have bought a chipped Wii off of a friend and although it is working fine, when I try to play the latest games it is telling me to upgrade.

I am worried about upgrading without knowing the actual chip inside as it says that I may damage the wii.

Now I am not sure if I have delved far enough into the inner workings of my wii. but after getting to the DVD drive there looks to be a soldered chip on the outside of it. There is also a ribbon cable that runs from the chip to the 2nd memory card slot on the wii.

Any help would be appreciated. ty

It should be a d2pro

If i try the d2pro upgrade disc I don't think it would harm it anyway would it ?
bfjem wasn't sure if its argon or not. Judging from the picture, it sure looks like a d2pro.

But anyways, are u sure it is not just the wii telling you to upgrade? If its wii, then you just download the upgrade file from them. You don't need a d2pro upgrade disc. Just make sure when you upgrade, do it in the wii menu. Do not upgrade your wii with a game inside.

Yeah this is whats happening. Its just that when I go to upgrade (online) that it tells me that if you have a modified wii then it can cause damge (or words to that effect).

Just tried to update via the net and it tells me that I have the latest software already. I am trying to play a new game I got and it is telling me to update the software before playing. Don't really want to do it from the disc that I have.
As long as all the software that you download is for the same region as your wii then you will have no problems. The problems only arise when you start running software from other regions as they expect different updates.
