    Anyone lowered their car properly?

Is it right you have to cut the bump stops by however much you are lowering them by? Else the car will be riding on them. Thanks.

I lowered a car about 12 years ago. At the time i remember i had to buy some new springs, which had tighter coils, and were about a inch and a half smaller, these effectivley offered increased resistance over normal springs, but were shorter, and stiffer. The bump stop issue was never a problem, as the springs were harder to compress. These springs were only about £25 each, along with some spring compressors at about £15 and a hour of my time made the car handle great (rear drive Corolla AE86).
I wouldnt advise cutting normal springs down, or messing with bump stops, these are generally in place to stop the wheels foulling the arches. Your insurance company wont take kindly if there is a accident and it would probarbly fail a MOT. Like i say, if you make any mods to your car at all, make sure you advise your insurance co., as they will use any way they can to get out of paying if the need arises.

would advise changing springs also, rather than cutting bits off

I've bought lowering springs and shocks and asked insurance about doing it. As i have after market alloys already and oem fog lights they said i'm covered up to £1000 worth of mods. But to let them know when i get it done.

Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. Depends how low you are going. 35mm leave them alone 60mm+ and you may need to shave them slightly.

Hopefully it's as little as possible, so won't have to touch them then only bought them because it was cheaper than replacing all the shocks/spring with OEM. Thanks.

Looks nice now, only problem is my front mud flaps skimming along the ground when I get two bumps in a row. Other than that feels like I'm sat in a 240cc go kart

don't get it, but I'm guessing you're thinking chav-tastic. In which case you would be wrong as I still have the standard exhaust :whistling: plus 95% of the reason I got it was because my suspension is 12 years old and it just wasn't gripping the road anymore round corners, plus some damage from a crash in snow didn't help, was cheaper than buying OEM as the kit was off ebay. It is only about a cm lower than GTI suspension as they put bog standard suspension on my 1.4.
