Anyone make handmade toys/dolls etc?

I have ordered some bits and bobs (inc blank rag doll bodies) and am going to have a stab at making some handmade toys. Have never used a sewing machine but my mum is gonna lend me her sewing machine, and give me a crash course. Can do a bit of hand sewing, cross-stitch etc, and not horrific, but need some practice. I need a hobby, so bored all the time!

Anyway my question to anyone into this kind of thing is, do you know of any sites with free patterns, for rag doll clothing, or handmade softies? Have found a couple, with some ok stuff on, but want some basic patterns to get a bit of practice. Am hoping to hone my skills enough to provide family with some unique gifts. Am hoping it's in the blood, my Great-Auntie is a ruddy genius with this kind of stuff, but she lives too far away to get some tuition lol!

Also any tips or advice welcomed!
