I am going to start running soon. Got the Couch to 5k app for my iPod Touch. How long did it take you guys to get up to marathon length? I'm assuming a couple of years solid training?

Depends how fit you currently are.

As I'm very fit I reckon if I trained for about 4/5 months I would be able to run the marathon in 2 hour 30 minutes.

I reckon I could run it in under 3 hours if I was to do it tomorrow without a specalist training programme.[/COLOR]

If you can dedicate the hours in training this time next year you could run the marathon in a good time quite comfortably..

Really just a case of starting slowly and building up your distance/running times

loads of good training plans out there with loads of helpful tips..

My one top tip would be to go and get measured for a quality pair of running shoes, will be worth it:thumbsup:

Can you win it Boothy?

I'm already walking at least 10 miles a week with the dog so actually getting out there and running is my next stage really.

What sort of cost am I looking at to get a decent pair of shoes? Everyone I know who runs has told me the exact same thing as you.

Good luck, a very worthy charity.

local running shop staffed by enthusiasts, not 18 year old kids

I use Asics Gel Landreth for running and Gel Nimbus for gym work

Good luck!! my mum and dad also running for help the heroes tomorrow!

We're polar opposites when it comes to the majority of issues, but I can't begrudge somebody doing something for a worthwhile cause. Good luck.
