Anyone regularly deal with Dell for spares?

After a bit of help here.

I'm trying to get hold of the parts I need to install a 2nd HDD in the spare bay on my Studio 1737. I started off by emailing Dell support and was told to call them instead, as the email support team don't do parts.

So, I called them, got transferred, put on hold for 10mins, transferred again and then hung up on! I explained carefully each time what I needed, but none of the people I spoke to seemed to know what I was on about and transferred me to someone else.

As I understand it I need a bracket to hold the HDD and an adaptor to connect the SATA connection on the HDD to the socket on the board.

Does anyone have a contact at Dell or something that can tell me the parts I need? Theres nothing on their site and nothing on ebay so I'm a bit stumped... and also quite annoyed with Dell. They were great pre-sale too and the laptops great, I just need more internal storage!

Don't know about dell, but a ebay search of Studio 1737 hard drive gives a seller, but it is not clear if it includes the housing, also googleing gives loads of results along with some forums that have some info on the upgrade.

has a link for a dell spare??

accessories.us.dell.com/sna…ice

£1 for a assembly, £5 for the housing.

They have a live chat in the US on that link, maybe worth asking if they ship to the UK, if not find a nice US friend who will buy and send on for you.
The part numbers may be global, so get UK live chat on and quote them maybe??

nope, they don't ship to the UK, you have to go via Dell UK, who don't have a spare parts site like that. bah!

If not, find a nice US friend that could help?

cheers, I'm talking to a guy on the UK dell site now, I sent him the link to the part on the US site and he said...

"Chris, I do not see this part on the UK website of Dell"

...yes I know! thats why I'm asking! :-D

Good luck, it is sad of dell to sell a laptop with a expansion slot for a 2nd hdd and not the hdd as a option or aftersale product.

well, thats interesting. I finally got transferred (by Dell) to a company called 'upgrade options limited' who are a Dell partner. The guy said he's going to see if he can get the part shipped over from the states for me and let me know how much its going to cost... what a completely insane way of doing business!

I had the same problems trying to get the same thing for my Vostro 1700, gave up in the end
