If its an SRT file, I think you just move it to the same folder as the movie file and select subtitles from the player...

Check out dvdrhelp.com they have how to files for all these sorts of things....

there should be a subtitle file, i think they are normally .srt (but i could be wrong) you just have to make sure that this subtitle file has the same name as your film. so if the file is film.avi the subtitle needs to be film.srt

im not on my home computer or i could help more. have you got a subtitle file?

Think Nero will burn them together on a disk, but depends if you want them hardcoded

eg. permanently there or Turn On/Off

what are you using to play it?

I find .srt files work best. They definitely work with Media player:thumbsup:

you might want change you title as well, make it help wanted with subtitles, might draw more attention

use a program called convertXtoDVD when you add the avi you then add the subtitles and click burn, once its burnt onto a DVD the subs will be available to you

while on the subject, anyone know anything that converts .avi to DVD? I use an avi to DVD Converter now and it takes about 4+ hours to burn 2 films...is there anything faster?

Does Nero do this as I have Nero 8

Nero will do it but ConvertXtoDVD is probably the best program to do it, or WinAVI if you have it.

The amount of time it takes depends on how high you set the priority of the program and the level of quality you want.

Don't know the program I use doesn't ask about quality can't remember whjat its called, but its really basic, very few options just on menu, chapter marks and aspect ratio thats about it

Have to burn for GirlF and it takes forever been offering to buy her a DivX player for ages but she's having none of it

Use the program king261 mentioned; ConvertXtoDVD. I use that to convert all my movie files to DVD. The program will even burn the end result for you if you select the option making the whole process pretty easy.

It will also automatically burn the subtitle track for you if its in the same folder and has the same name. I think it will recognize .srt and .sub

Oh yeah and if you just want to play the .avi on your computer with subs then grab VLC Media Player (its free) as it will recognize any video file you throw at it. You may have to activate the sub file in the player to get the subtitles up but that is easily done in the Video drop down menu.

WinAVI will do a film on my computer in about an hour, ConvertXtoDVD stlightly longer but a bit better quality. The speed will vary depending on the spec of your computer, the above figures are from my old P4 3.2 with 4GB of ram, I haven't tried it on my core2duo.

VLC always crashes on me after about 25 minutes....don't know why

To be honest I just play everything on Media Player always works as I downloaded KLite codecs

i suggest reinstalling vlc i have been using it for a couple of years now and think it is one of the best programs out there

There is probably an advanced option somewhere where you can alter the quality/number of passes etc but if you are happy with the results as they are don't bother with it.

If you are converting a lot of films to dvd, wait until your GF goes out, chuck her dvd player in the bin and replace it with a DivX player, it will save you a lot of work and pain:whistling:

    Not a bad idea....

nah been through the program with a microscope, its really basic, I think its a basic user friendly converter for anyone to use, its OVERLY simple - only has a few options

can't for the life of me remember its name, has all theses cheesy pre-set backgrounds you can use

EDIT: Its ImTOO avi to DVD Converter

That seems slow tbh. I have same processor but only 1gb of ram and I use cucusoft pro and that takes about half an hour to convert and burn a 700mg avi to DVD.
