    Another car thread sorry!

Looking at Hyundai i20 yesterday with scrapping my old car included. He said he couldn't budge on the price even a penny. Even though I'd be a cash buyer etc etc.

Are all dealerships like this now/at the minute-my parents used to barter down cars all the time.

Wondering whether it's just Hyundai or all dealerships.

not 100% sure but dont think they knock any more money off if your using the scrappage thing x

hi he's right my brother in law works in hyundia dealership he says there is not nearly as much of a markup on hyundia's compared to others cars thats why he wont budge they are after all reasonably priced

because of the current economic climate *blah blah blah*

people are much more inclined to ask for a discount these days. The dealerships have (like you found out) started saying no to everyone and being much less flexible in their pricing.

    -edit
    phone another Hyundai dealership?
    might be worth a shot...

Even though I'd be a cash buyer etc etc.

Cash means less profit for them BTW

A friends wife works at a car dealers and they are always told they dont sell cars the sell loans,

Do some research, it was on Fifth Gear about the scrapping scheme, and he managed to get £7000 off in total, off, i think it was a Mondeo. Do your research and there are still bargains to be had. There's not just main dealers, there are the independent new car websites.

pm Kyalion - he 's a 'del boy' lol

Don't be in a rush to buy it, take your time and don't overlook anything because there's always another one.

i was in a rush to get mine and just had an MOT done for £300!!

I've just sought out that video and it was very good actually-not only good for showing me Hyundai are price stickers and thats the end of it, but also that it might be a good idea to have a gander in ford tomorrow!

The i20 I want has 5 year free warranty included and reasonable costing services so I've already checked that! My banger cost me £400 last year when it conked out in the middle of Nottingham.

As stated above, they are cheap cars and not marked up as much as many others, thus you can't expect to get a huge discount. The dealer should have a bit of a buffer though.

I went into a dealer and got given a price on a Toyota Yaris that they said was already discounted. Went on-line and found it for £1500 cheaper. Went back to original dealer, he said he couldn't match it but knocked £1250 off price which we went for. Get comaparison prices and then go back.

    phone round other hyundai dealers
    i did and saved £1600
they used to get cars on 90 days credit if after 90 days they had to pay for them
so if you find a dealer with a car they have to pay for shortly you may well get a better deal
dont know where in country you are but
eric stead hyundai sheffield did me a couple of great deals

I'm in Lincolnshire/ Nottinghamshire so will give them all call.

will have a ring around tomorrow and see what I can do. Should be interesting! lol.

Remember that on the phone you do not look like £££ to them, you might just be looking into it - the best deal will be had from being there with your old car and looking like you are ready to buy.

    Yes of course

Thing with offering cash is that no-one really wants cash these days, especially when it's in that sort of sum. Say that car you're looking at is £10k. That's 500 £20 notes that all have to be checked to ensure they're not fake and be counted, and then banked. It's a massive waste of time, as well as a major security risk. Plus, they can make more money out of someone buyign on credit.
