Apple Higher Education (HE) discount & quidco

Right I just bought a macbook through my HE Uni discount, I also went through quidco as well.

This is what I did -

Cleared cookies with Ccleaner
Went to quidco website
Clicked on apple, waited for it to fully load
Opened a new tab clicked on my UNI HE link for offline campus access
Purchased everything I wanted
It confirmed my order

Should it work with what I did?
I ordered it about 2pm, does anyone know how long apple takes for quidco to show?

Cheers,

The new macbook 2.0GHZ
With HE discount £816
A free ipod nano which I will sell for £100
A free printer which I hope to sell for £50
Quidco hopefully at about £45

So total price - £621

If everything goes to plan.

I've got validated Apple quidco I'm still waiting for from February 2008. So don't spend it yet!

You get a 3 year warranty with all HE purchases as well, so not all bad

Off course exchange rates has everything to do with setting a price in another country etc.

However even at the current dollar to pound exchange rate which is - 1.71921

As the mabook 2.0ghz cost $1299 it should have cost us £755.654

However the price for that spec of macbook is £949

How can you explain the extra £194??

VAT? The Taxes incurred by Apple for exporting to the UK, packaging changes, power adapter changes.

There really isn't a great deal in it when you add all that on to it, sure you could import a Macbook from states if you felt so strongly about it, but by the time you pay shipping, import duty and release admin fees from the courier company then you are even closer to a MacBook Pro. Apples warranty is worldwide so your quite at liberty to do so.

Once the VAT is taken into consideration it does seem to offset itself. I purchased one for the above price in my post and coupled with all the student deals and quidco it was a great deal.

However for people who aren’t a student etc it is not so... £949 is a lot of money.

Don't get me wrong, I am an apple fan - their products are excellent and unbeatable most of the time!

I would say they also have a brilliant marketing approach.

This will be my first Mac so I’m more than looking forward to it!

Did the same thing for the low end MBP and quidco has tracked at £66! yay!

i was looking to buy The new macbook. i will try the method you used.
only problem is i cant acces the HE apple shop from home as it has to be on the uni's network

I'm still waiting a year later after buying a iMac for my quidco to actually get paid :-(

You can purchase it at home.

All you have to do is go into your uni and once the HE store loads, copy and paste the url. The proxy is only use as validation, the url for your specific HE store will work anywhere.

Failing that you can probably also connect via your universities web-cache; lots of uni's allow you to use their web-service from off site using your username and password (search for web cache or off-campus access on the uni computing service pages)...

Thanks again for suggestion.

Have just purchased a near carbon copy of your order (except I went for the Touch)!

Hope the Quidco tracks :?

Quidco appeared today!

I'm a happy guy - see!

I'm a legit student but I only have access to Uni's computers in the library and
the HE page wouldn't load from there :-(

PM me and I'll give u the link to the HE store, the mods keep for some reason taking the link off.

I'm curious, did any of you finally get the cashback?
