iPhone 7 & 7 Plus |

Same design. iPhone 7 will mostly be the same physical design as iPhone 6s apart from repositioned antenna lines. As you can see in the image below, the antenna lines will be redirected along the edge of the device leaving a smooth backside free of the antenna lines visible on the back of current iPhone models.

Dual-camera system. One of the big hardware upgrades that Apple will surely highlight on stage is the dual-camera tech it’s expected to introduce with far better zoom capabilities. It looks like the new dual-camera could be limited to the larger 5.5-inch models, while one report claimed the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 models will get optical image stabilization, a feature previously limited to the larger 5.5-inch Plus models. Both models will get new 12 megapixel cameras according to the latest supply chain reports.

No headphone jack. Apple is removing the headphone jack and forcing you to use wireless or Lightning headphones or adapters,
32GB-256GB.
Redesigned Home button.
New Space Black colour option.

As well as reaffirming everything we’ve already heard, such as the design resembling the iPhone 6s with tweaked antenna lines, the report includes some specific details about certain changes.

KGI says that the iPhone 7 will include the new Apple A10 SoC, which will be CPU clocked at up to 2.4GHz, a dramatic increase over the existing A9 silicon. The iPhone 7 will also come in two new color options which KGI describes as “dark black” and glossy “piano black”, replacing space grey. There are also changes to the speaker system, Force Touch sensors, waterproofing and more.

KGI report says that the iPhone 7 will be offered in two new case colors which are called “dark black” and “piano black”. Space Grey — as it is exists today — will be removed from the lineup meaning iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be offered in a total of five colors. The piano black is described as glossy and corroborates leaked SIM trays seen previously (pictured above). Due to low yield, piano black may only be offered exclusively on high-capacity iPhone 7 models, at least at first.

In terms of the internal performance, the report claims the iPhone 7 will be powered by a new Apple A10 chip manufactured by TSMC using a new ‘InFO’ process. Apparently, this chip will be a major upgrade over the Apple A9 chip seen in the iPhone 6s with maximum clock speed hitting 2.4 GHz.

The iPhone 7 screen display will also be getting an upgrade. Although size and resolution are staying the same, at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, the displays will ‘copy’ the visual features of the 9.7 inch iPad Pro. This means the iPhone 7 display will be able to render wide-color imagery. This will help boost the appearance of the photos taken by the new cameras in the iPhone 7.

The 4.7 inch iPhone 7 camera will be getting an upgrade but this KGI report focuses on the brand-new dual camera system which will be exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus. The report says the dual camera will enable optical zoom and ‘light field camera applications’. The dual camera is made up of a wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera. Both cameras will feature 12 megapixel sensors. The larger camera will also feature optical image stabilisation and a 6P lens. This is markedly different technology to what Huawei uses in its dual-camera adorned P9 phone — it’ll be interesting to see what Apple demos on Wednesday in regards to image quality.

Apple is also including a new camera flash component in the iPhone 7 to improve photos taken in low-light situations. Apple will be boosting the number of LEDs from two to four (two cool, two warm) to create a more effective True Tone flash in the upcoming handsets.

Memory and RAM will also be increased. KGI says Apple will drop the 16 GB and 64 GB offering and add 256 GB storage tier. The new lineup will feature 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB models. The company will also bundle an additional 1 GB of RAM for the iPhone 7 Plus which is necessary to handle with the advanced camera processing provided by the dual-camera (an iPhone 7 Plus exclusive feature). Therefore, the 5.5.inch iPhone 7 Plus will include 3 GB RAM whereas the 4.7 inch iPhone 7 will feature 2 GB RAM – the same as the iPhone 6s.

Agreeing with a leaked spec sheet from a few days ago, KGI says that Apple will include Lighting EarPods and a Lighting to 3.5mm Headphone Jack adapter with every iPhone 7. This is to compensate for the lack of 3.5mm headphone jack in the hardware itself. KGI says that that space will be used to enhance the Force Touch recognition system. On the outside, it will look like a second speaker grille but it will actually house a new sensor to improve the ‘Force Touch user experience’. Apple is adding a new internal amplifier to boost sound output from the phone’s receiver.

KGI also claims the proximity sensor component is also getting a upgrade (‘switching from LCD to laser’) with faster response times and longer recognition distance, with support for hand-waving gesture features. The inclusion of such gestures is not confirmed, however. The new iPhones will also be waterproof with an IPX7 rating, this is the same as the Apple Watch. This rating means the hardware will be able to withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. According to KGI, Apple’s high standards for waterproofing have impacted the supply chain and lowered total production of iPhone 7.

It is forecasting 65 million iPhone 7 units shipped by the end of the year, a significant decrease below the 82 million level set by the iPhone 6s in the same timeframe last year. KGI blames poor assembly yield and “limited innovative selling points”. Although there are lot of changes to be seen, the analyst expects customer to focus on the new black color options, the dual camera, water resistance and the removal of the headphone jack.

[img]http://cdn2.macworld.co.uk/cmsdata/features/3530504/iphone_7_release_date_invitation_880_thumb.jpg

September 7th is going to be busy, Sony Event too, and Rumored NX announcement Date.

I was looking forward to the iPhone 7 launch, however if rumours are true nothing is really jumping out at me making me want to upgrade from the 6 at the moment.

Still looking forward to finding out more info though because nothing is official yet anyway.

No headphone socket? Doesn't the pic show the headphones going through the Lightning port? Daft not to have a headphone socket though or are up to their crafty ways again?

I would never upgrade unless I was near the end of my contract. No matter what the new features were. I don't know how people can justify it.

Always interested to know what the latest tech has to offer though

If I remember correct they are removing the 3.5mm headphone jack to allow for a thinner device, but yeah youde have to use their "lightning" headphones.

I don't like the fact they restrict you to things like this, it's pretty expensive stuff. The chargers are known to not be the greatest and I don't like using cheaper alternatives which there will be plenty of because I find I get software issues.

Good to see the 16bg model is gone and it's waterproof. Expect the camera to be amazing so that will probably make up for the fact there is no re-design of the phone it self.

There are a lot of iPhone 7/7 plus cases for sale on Amazon, complete with the new iphone 7 as part of the photos. You can clearly see the headphone jack is gone (speaker grill in its place), and dual camera in the 7 Plus. Apple is now leaking like sieves.

Im not sure how Apple get away with using a lightning cable as a charger, I thought it was an EU directive now that all new Phones MUST have a Micro USB charger?

Is it worth putting a £5.99 case on? I spent £50 on a screen protector and shock proof case when I took my 5s out on contract. It has survived many drops and still as new. Probably paid over the odds as bought it from the Apple shop but a £6 case on a £600 phone seems a bit risky.

Yeah, I've never actually bought a new iPhone on release to keep for myself. I've always bought several months after for much less but I was really interested to see what the iPhone 7 would be like - perhaps I am expecting to much.

I've also never owned any iPhone 5 models, I didn't like their design. I went from a 4, to a Moto G, and then to a 6 which I have owned for a while now. Plus I always buy pay as you go and use my SIM only contract which is £5/per month.

Anyhow, still looking forward to finding out more!

Hoping to see a redesigned macbook pro as well with the new OLED function bar,be great to see one in space black might treat myself for Christmas if they do.

Never owned a MacBook. I've just treated myself to a chromebook X)

No point in updating the camera every time I take a picture on my iPhone I have to delete 10 as not enough space drives me up the wall and saving pictures from iPhone to computer is no easy task. Bring back the memory card any day

One thing made me buy a macbook, and that is its trackpad! Its just that good.

Nothing to move me from 6S but I predict next year will be a big one. It'll be the ten year anniversary of the iPhone. I think they'll pull out a complete overhaul of the design. I expect to buy one in piano black.

Sounds pants and far more interesting things are happening that day. But I love the effort you've gone to writing that up. Nice job

One of the joys of owning a Mac or iPad is that we can use airDrop. Just turn it on with both devices and it can send your photos straight to the other very quickly. No cables needed. But yeah to a Windows it's a bit of a hassle. If you need more storage then maybe you need something like this

That's an option too. For myself I would settle in the middle. 16gb/32gb is too small for me and 256gb is too much or just too expensive unless I planned on downloading a whoooole lot of apps. But for all my photos and stuff I keep backups and store them on the Mac as-well as an external hard drive. I used to back up family members iPads onto the Windows computer and they refuse to allow me remove the photos from the device so each time I had to back them up, the folder names automatically changed which made it even more of a hassle to back up. So For my own device I stick with deleting them all after two backups. Lol. Can always do an easy transfer back over via airdrop for the important ones.

Nice, will keep an eye out and see what kit they've got up their sleeves

Yeah 16GB is just not enough I agree and that's the reason they have scrapped it. I expect this will be the norm in a year or so even though most other devices offer the option to increase storage.

I still think the watch is a bit of a gimmick. I just can't see how a watch can operate efficiently needing to be charged so often. Seems more like an inconvenience.

I want a smartwatch, I really do. But like you say, the charging issue is a big thing for me. Forget to charge your expensive watch on an evening? Well you're not wearing it the next day. Really counter intuitive.

I cannot see the batteries getting a lot better on them either, for the amount they do & the amazing screens on them etc I just can't see it being possible.

Yeah, I like my watch to stay where it is. On my wrist. The thought of having to take it off all the time and getting caught short with battery on the odd occasion seems a real pain.

I stopped reading at 'same design'.

Compared to my SE the 6 is one ugly thing.

google drive will sort that out for you

I've also heard rumors of a new blue colour, like an ink blue, don't know how true they are though. I will be buying a new one whenever preorders open to ensure I can get the size and colour since the largest storage and new colours normally go first. But casewise I might wait and see what tech 21 have to offer as that is what I have on my 6s and it was cheaper than the official apple leather one that was ruined within a year of use on my iphone 6

What a ridiculous thing to legislate for, no wonder the EU is seen as such an overbearing, interfering entity.

Compatibility is nice to have but the lightning connector is objectively quite a bit better than micro usb. Though it doesn't really matter, the organisation that came up with the cookie law should be having no input in technological anything.

If such interference were prevalent back in my hey day we'd all still be using ps/2 connectors. No USB allowed, micro or otherwise

I agree, I was just wondering what Apple were doing about it.. although I think the EU should have no say on connectivity, it should be arranged between consumer companies but I do think companies need to come up with a standard port connection for charging,

So USB C & Lightning and also any other standard being waved about, should all fit into a standard port sizing, so any cable can charge! for data transfer that can be propriety.

Is the event on at 6pm?
