yeah I heard that but I'd be buying instore so only 1 year warranty

Cost me an extra £49 or £59 when I got it.
I was told, rightly or wrongly, by the Apple HE telephone people that if you go for the free 3 years warranty if you have a problem you have to take it to store to get it fixed whereas if you pay for the full Applecare you can get it collected from your house to be fixed and delivered back again.
I went for it because I wanted the telephone support and full peace of mind that it's all covered even if I can't get to a store as I live a few hours away from my nearest Apple store.

Edit: I just looked at my invoice and Applecare was £50 + vat so £58.50. Prices can vary between online and instore, it was in fact cheaper for me to buy in store but I wanted an anti-glare screen which the store I went to do not sell and cannot acquire so I only had the option of online which was about £50 more expensive than in their price booklet but I love my macbook pro, it's brilliant!

Not as far as I know, who said that?

It's true as that's what they told me in store, plus they have a load of info on it at Macrumours

What You Can Get From Higher Education Online Store
Included free of charge you get an extended 3 warranty period. Note this is not the same as AppleCare. It covers hardware problems and shipping. It also covers all monitors bought on the same order

For a discounted price (around £50) you can get AppleCare, this just adds telephone support really to the free extended warranty.

What You Can Get From Retail Store With Higher Education Id
Discounted AppleCare (around £50) as it is online.

You do NOT get the free 3 year extended warranty instore

So if buying instore I would deffo go for the Applecare.

I thought Macs were supposed to "just work", so why would you need to pay more for extra warranty? Your paying over the odds as it is!

Helpful!

OP I believe as someone has mentioned that if you buy through HE you get an extended warranty anyway.

If your unsure and can't get the right answer call Apples sales team direct I have always found them very helpful
