Account No & Sort Code.

There is not a lot they can do with this info other than pay money in.

However be aware they can also setup things such as direct debits with certain companies with that info

yes, dodgy, ask yourself 'wly can't they paypal'

Don't think they are dodgy in the sense someone can rob your account. However there's no come back unlike paypal where you can dispute

Stick to Paypal if you can

paypal charge to receive, BT's are free!

Never pay by bank transfer as you have no comeback. You should be ok if it is you receiving money as there isn't a lot they can do with your details... apart from perhaps set up a direct debit in your name?!

bank transfers use the same details that someone could find on a cheque you have written so no I wouldnt call them dodgy in anyway

That implies that you do have extra protection using other methods which you often don't. If you have the persons full details then there is no reason why you can't involve the police/take them to small claims court if they trade fraudulently...

Receive by BT...great You cant go wrong. (apart from people setting up a direct debit against you..which is highly unlikely).
You dont pay fees, and paypal couldnt do a chargeback on you.
Its the norm in places such as Germany...

As a buyer, try to use paypal...its easier, quicker, and you should get some protection if you follow the rules

No except on ebay! This site should be fine for BT's if you have researched the sellers feedback. beats paypal!

Even in the rare case that a direct debit is set up on your account, under the direct debit guarantee, you are entitled to your money back, so bank transfers are not dodgy.

Bank Transfers are fine like everyone else said, Cheques on the other hand can be chargeback..ed up to 45 days of being cashed!
