They seem pretty expensive, I know Apple own them now... Are they worth the money? I need buy some decent headphones was looking at Sony ones but for my eldest... He's only asked for a few games and dvds for Christmas so figured I get him some decent headphones for at home... Any advice appreciated.

they are not worth the money. Do not buy beats

yes

Overpriced definitely

Yes they're good headphones, but they're the wrong price point for the standard. Consider them to be more fashionable over substance. The money they cost will buy you much better sounding headphones, but they're not bad headphones in their own right. If you're happy to spend more money for the name and the look, go for it. They'll still make your music sound good. But, just be aware that you'll get less iconic but much better sounding headphones for the same money. Check out the headphones subreddit for examples

You'd be better getting him some Bose or Sennheiser headphones for the same budget, they're worlds apart quality wise.

aren't most things!
they cost a few quid to make then slap a designer label on it and the price rockets .
I believe beats cost less than £10 a pair to make.
Kids want the label though these days

I second the Bose/Senheiser route; Beats aren't terrible by any stretch, but you'll get better quality from other brands for a similar, if not smaller budget.

I'd say this is a pretty good summary.

i have went out and tried a few different high end headphones. These are great at cancelling out sound, u can hear everything really crisp and clear on the tracks, the battery life is phenomenal, they sync up to everything effortlessly, i can be 40yards away from device and can still get wireless function, the functions on the side of headphone are simple and effective.

However, i never paid full price, and wouldn't pay full price for headphones. Im assuming most other people on here can get them cheaper too??

Marketing is wonderful.

They are not bad. Just you can get better for same price.

OK thanks for replies.
He never asked for beats but I know he needs some new headphones, he not fussed on brands... Unlike my daughter.. his last pair were reduced to £15 in sale in HMV, so any suggestions with links please.

Totally overrated! Speaking from experience as a studio-type-music-bod, AKG wins. Sennheiser make some good cans too. Sony are a bit hit and miss, and Bose are overpriced.

Never owned a bad Bose product.

Try them on store at Curry's and make your own mind up.

They are "Okay" Quality wise but the Quality:£££'s Spent Ratio is Poor. if he pays Video Games get him Turtle beaches in the £40-£70 price point...if in general... Sony Bluetooth headphones at ~ £40 are the greatest peice of Tech

My sons were free when we bought his iMac but I think the rrp of them was £250. They are good headphones but I'd have never have bought them for that price.

Audio Technica ATH-M50X are the best headphones I've ever bought. Amazing sound quality for the money. Check out how many 5* reviews they have on Amazon

If it doesn't need to be portable then stick to the Hi-fi/DJ manufacturers like Audio Technica, Beyerdyanmic, AKG, Grado, Sennheiser etc.

You could try Bose in ear with mic. These are perfect and very good bass as well, looks stylish too. Got a cheap one on eBay for £50.

I just don't see the point of them having one. They have access to net at home and we have loads of game consoles and my daughter has an ipad. I won't buy everything going just cos their friends have.... I

Waaaaaaaat. This is 2017! It's totally normal and acceptable for children to have their own phones, and it's a great thing for safety as well - what if they need help or to contact you in an emergency when away from home? oO

Kids socialise so much online these days, it's like telling a kid back in the day he cannot go play in the street - evil! X)

Yeh but I always know where they are, they know not to go off. I have very set times and boundaries for everything.

Unless you have a hidden GPS tracker on them don't be so sure!

When I was about 12 I decided to go to my friends house (less known friend that my mother didn't know about) on the walk home from school without telling anyone. Just kid things, anyway, my mother was worried sick and phoned every friend's parents she knew and no one knew where I was. By the time I got home she about killed me. Kids can be totally unpredictable and this would have been all fine if I had a phone on me back in the day!

From a safety point of view i'd at least consider a cheapo basic phone..

I've read good things about the Noontech (Aussie brand) Zoro II HD 'phones which look very like Beats' Solo II HDs. headphoneaddict.com/zor…ew/

Lots of rave reviews on Amazon and a fraction of the price - I bought a pair of Zoro HD (v1) which will appear any day.
