Are black shiny kitchen worktops a disaster for cleaning

Moderator
About to change the worktops and we like the black granite gloss laminate worktops.

Those who have them, do you find they are a pain to keep nice or not?

My mother-in-law has black granite and it always looks nice. Saying that...........i don't know if she scrubs it like a loon all the time. lol

Fine as long as you don't use anything abrasive, and there are specialist cleaners for them.

My son has them, and hes a dirty beggar but his always look clean!

To keep it glossy always use chopping boards and don't put anything really hot on it.

I have a black granite worktop and its very easy to clean.
I use standard kitchen cleaner and milton anti bacteria wipes/spray.
Oh and I always us my chopping board.

I have black granite, and a micro fibre cloth is great for keeping it in top condition. Just a quick wipe over and it looks really glossy and like new again.

If your going for granite, definitely get a chopping board as others have advised.

Edit: You are advised to wash them over weekly with soapy water and when dry use a granite conditioner. This is only when you first get them, I think its to seal the granite or something to protect against marking.

I have black granite gloss laminate work tops. You need to be careful as they easily scratch.....I have 2 teenage boys that cook for themselves...... they arn't careful. I've reached the "past caring" stage!

Ok thanks for the feedback, this is laminate not granite, so no conditioner needed, I just need to be sure to use a cutting board and keep the kids off it ;-)
