    Are second hand high volume business printer / copiers worth buying on eBay

    I was looking at buying a machine like this for my home office for work use:

    Are they worth buying vs buying a brand new consumer printer. My main concern is cost of replacement drums and fuser unit?

    How much do you print! That's a whopper for most home offices!

    I bring alot of my work home. I print around 500 pages a week. I'm fed up of consumer printers. Not sure if these are potential trap given the high cost of parts.

    Its work related. That's not my query. Are they worth buying vs brand new consumer printers. Its not just for printing functionality but for the ADF scanning.

    ​not sure what adg scanning is but u can buy large bulky printers off ebay for very cheap if u don't mind travelling sometimes for 1 quid so u could just keep buying another one instead of toners etc if they are too expensive. something like this will probably go very cheap just ask them it's all working fine and wave many pages it's likely to print before toner needs replacing

    I would imagine something like that is very expensive to run. At my business I have a Epson inkjet printer with a CISS (continuous ink supply system) attached. I probably print around 700 pages a week, and the ink costs me about £30 every few months. I tend to replace the printer every 12-18 months as it has usually reached it end of life cycle by then. I don't tend to go for a high end printer either, something mid range, around £100 or less.

    I once bought a second business printer, paid £250 in a public auction after research told me it was £1500 new. Worked fine for a few months then the head went and the cost of replacement was too much. Just my experiance if it helps.

    I know that wasnt your query, but knowing what you'd be using the printouts for would help me tell you if it's a good investment or not.

    ADF is ok when it works, but only really when it's no more that half a dozen pages. Over this and you have a good chance of a paper jam.

    With 500 sheets a week you'd be better off contacting a local printer leasing/rental firm.

    You pay x amount per month for maintenance and leasing then y pence per sheet. All consumables are included and they'll send you new toners/ink the moment they are getting near empty so your never unable to print. Anything breaks or goes wrong with the printer and they'll repair it and pay for all the parts.

    As it's leased it looks better on the books (no assets, no depreciation, etc) so something I'd definitely consider first.
