Are there any issues with this rig?

Hey, I'm going to build myself a "casual" gaming desktop and I have got all the components in my cart on ebuyer however as this is my first build I'm seeking advice before going through with the buy, are there any compatability issues or overheating issues with this rig? or maybe even just better parts for the same amount of money? would be greatful if you goes would look it over.

    Thanks in advance

    Dallas

Change the GPU to a 4850, only slightly more but far better
TBH too i'd get the Antek 300 case and a seperate, branded Power Supply as It would then be far FAR more reliable.

The rest looks good though, as far as I can tell!
Great choice of Processor, I have the same one and it's fantastic!

Can't seem to find the case or the GPU your on about on ebuyer.

The motherboard you are buying is a full size ATX motherboard (30.75cm x 24.5cm)

The case you are buying says it will only accept a: Standard Micro ATX / Baby ATX. It says maximum 9.6" by 9.6" (24.38cm x 24.38cm)

This case is too small to take a full size ATX board.

Also suggest you read some of the reviews on the ebuyer site for the case as some people say it is very flimsy, and also some graphics cards and CPU fans may not fit in there.

    Rookie mistake lol

Better choice of case and psu?

still unsure on a graphics card, really don't want to spend over 110 on one, any suggestions?

better!, for the gfx i quite like xfx, had a few of their cards and very good for money

how bout this for case and psu, the artic ones are quite good had a few of them very stable voltages

is the cpu your dream boat?, quad core 6600 at close money!!

have swaped to the arntek 300 case and arctic psu, if i was 2 go with the quad core id need to pick another mobo as the current one doesnt support quad.

    Original Poster

also went with the graphics card you suggested

damm just noticed the mainboard, nice choice an asus but that is one old model, brb

    Original Poster

didn't know it was an old mobo as this is my first build, on a really tight budget so I guess it will have to do.

umm they seem to have no p5k's left they were decent boards for bout 50 but no raid if that bothers you?,

Consider the ASUS P5QL PRO at 64 or the Asus P5N-E SLI 650i, has sli if you decide to add anothr gfx card later!! and these are supposed to have the fastest on-board RAID in the business.

According to recent reviews the board you picked does support the quads but does not natively support the processor you picked as its standard bus without overclocking is only 1066.

    Original Poster

I have no idea what RAID or overclocking is lol.

My recommendation. Better cooling, probably a better PSU and RAM, better graphics. A drop in prcoessing, but with the AK965 you can achieve a fairly good overclock. I have the E7200 / HD4850 combo and it's great.

looks perfect mate and £50 cheaper than my current shopping cart, only thing that worries me is this overclocking bussiness, havn't got a scooby!

think it involves making it run at a higher speed than it was designed to or something along those lines

If you can get free delivery from scan, get this:- scan.co.uk/Pro…439

If you can, and order the rest from ebuyer (well the stuff in mine), it'll bring it down £13.

would the rig you recomended handle the likes of "world in conflict" and "halo wars"?

the cm330 case is not a patch on the antec quality wise, if it was a centurion 5 i would agree but the 330 is very thin and tinny and no better than most of the cheap ones
Also abit mainboards, overrated by far and they sent me 2 faulty ones as replacements for another faulty one, poor beyond belief
oh and the sapphire 4850 if you go down those lines is worth the 20 extra over the pallit if you decide that way personnally i think quad cores will hold resale value better, try and get rid of a single core now!!

is it just me or has everyone else noticed ebuyers prices going up and up,,, xmas is approaching i suppose

Not a lot in it graphic wise, but personally I choose a 9800gt over the Sapphire 4850.

Maplin have this available in store:
    maplin.co.uk/Mod…349

Runs things like Crysis, COD4, frontlines, combat arms etc. pretty well & can overclock slightly more than the 4850, but is a little bit loud when used for long periods.

    Hope it helps

Oh ye' and it overclocks slightly more

Dont forget if your putting it together yourself you might need some thermal paste for the CPU.

Also.. i dont know if its still the case.. but you used to have to use a floppy drive to put sata drivers on.

    Banned

Ye' better off getting some silver/copper cooling paste, and getting rid of the factory supplied "glue"

New boards are ok these days, SATA is detected, so no need to make a driver disk

Don't spend £50 on such an old motherboard, if you want an intel chipset you should be able to get a P35 based board for £50.

The passive card is nice to have, but if you're trying to make a quiet system then be aware that you may need to replace the fans and power supplies. If you're on a tight budget then it may be worth spending the extra so get quiet things in the first place, you could consider the reportedly quiet WD greenpower 500GB: ebuyer.com/pro…212

Once you've got an up to date motherboard you could switch to quad-core if you wanted.

noise aint really an issue although i dont want it to loud if you get what i mean, heres aan update on how my cart is looking http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo266/tonyharper21/cart.jpg

The 9600 graphics card will perform similar to a 8800, personally I'd spend £20 more and put a 9800GT in it.

    Hope it helps

Oh ye' and this hard drive instead, for a few pence more:

The 9800GT is the same as the 8800GT in terms of performance

I'd reccomend changing it to this:
