Found 15th Sep 2010
i made an order with marks and spencers online and paid extra for named day delivery as i have a very busy week this week. my parcel was supposed to be arriving yesterday and according to the dhl tracking it was out for delivery yesterday morning at 8.30 am.
the parcel never arrived and this morning i tracked it again and now it says "unable to locate" does this mean they've lost my parcel?

just wondering who i should phone to complain to as i'm not a happy bunny this morning. should i call marks and spencers or dhl?

thanks for any help

that would be extremely hard as i live in a quite large estate and not in a rural area or anthing. i have had lots of parcels delivered over the years (including via dhl) and no one has ever not found my address

DHL first, they will be able to tell you whats what.,
Then M&S for a refund of the delivery charge

You'd be surprised ... a DHL driver didn't deliver to me recently after I waited in all day. I chased it the next day and was first told he couldn't find the address (like you, I live in a city and in a very easy to find street) ... and then told by a supervisor that he had in fact been and put a card through the door - to try and make me believe this he apparently even recorded that it was a white door!!

It was redelivered the next day and when I questionned the driver he said our house is in his area, but he didn't have a delivery to this address on that day.

Someone was lying. People do this :-(

If DHL are running late with the morning / early afternoon delivery's, they will hold parcels on the van for the following day as the mid/late afternoon is focused on getting ALL collections.

Is better for them to deliver a late parcel compared to not collecting one as they ensure they have your business.

I thought you said that M&S was for old ladies

Trouble with couriers is a lot work on "piece" work, so each time they attempt to deliver they get paid anyway, so if they claim you wasn't in they get paid anyway, then get paid again when they do deliver and being in a large built up area makes this easier as you are less likely to notice a van drive past and as said above they write down the door colour to report back to the higher ups to show they have been in the area.

I would say unable to locate is the parcel missing though as this as happened to me.

The couriers only get paid when they actually deliver, not "attempt" to deliver.

Why don't you let M&S do the chasing?

I should clarify, self employed couriers do. Apart from the employed couriers obviously, they get paid per hour regardless of delivery sucess.

I'd be ringing M&S - your arrangement is with them, their arrangement is with DHL. All you'll get from DHL is a new delivery date - M&S will more likely give you an apology, a discount (or at least your P&P back) AND a new delivery date.

Have you got a neighbour who is usually in? Ask their permission to accept the parcel for you, and stick a note on your door askin gpostie to go there instead - always works for me. ASK PERMISSION!!
