Argos Faulty LCD

I bought a 22" LCd from Argos in May that Isaw advertised as a deal on HDUK, problem I have is the built in DVD has broken. I took it back and they sent it to be repaired and I just got the call that it can't be repaired and that they don't think they sell that LCD anymore so will likely give me a refund in store vouchers.

Not great news as the LCD was at a great price which is why I bought it and there isn't anything remotely similar in the same price range at Argos, obviously I'm stuck if thats all they will offer. Will it make any difference if I kick up a fuss, I would have hoped they would of offered me the nearest comparable set?? Little one isn't pleased as he has no TV now so I've got to get it sorted asap. Anyone had similar happen and have any advice??

the message they left said store vouchers though, would I be entitled to ask for it to be put back on my debit card so I can shop elsewhere??

Yes you would, and don't accept vouchers - you are legally entitled to a refund by means you paid (as long as you have proof of purchase) if they cannot repair or replace with something of the same spec.
(I was sales manager for argos before i left to have the kids -although they WILL try to tell you all you can have is vouchers its not true!!)

Excellent just wanted to check as I think they will try and offer me vouchers and the closest set is about £80 more than I paid so I can't see them offering me this as a replacement.

Thanks for all your help, I'll let you know how it went tomorrow when I go up there.

you can also ask for an alternative and they must give you that if they do not have the original one you bought to replace it

Its about £80 more than I paid for the next closest thing as far as I can see on their site now.

well you can ask for an alternative as you dont have time to shop around and thats why you use argos for convenience and would just like a replacement no vouchers or credit as you have no time!

I will see how it goes, I'll ask as long as I don't get lumbered with vouchers I'll be ok.

just tell them you didnt pay with vouchers so you do not want to go down that route of having to search again for a tv and can they choose a replacement substitute thats what they also do instore?

Well I ended up managing to get a replacement from the another store otherwise all they would offer is the refund as no other sets in a close price range
