I bought my partner an Artisan (in red) a few years a ago and can say it's been a great buy! Not only does it look awesome it also works effortlessly. Her sister-in-law has a premium Kenwood equivalent, and in her opinion thinks it is not as good.

Are you looking new or used?

If you're looking for an old one, Kenwood all the way!

This.

I really like my Kenwood but then I can't advise on anything else because that's all I have ever had

We have kenwood and works great and so far been 100% reliable.

Kitchen Aid Aritisan is by far the better mixer. My wife is a home bread maker who supplies over 40+ loaves and rolls per week to local people and she has had two kenwood's and both failed.

Who cares about usability and build quality, Kitchen Aid makes any kitchen look a million times better. The only mixer you can have on display like an ornament. Hell you don't even need to ever use it, just buy and put proudly in the middle of your worktop.

I was given a high end Kenwood (when I asked for a kitchen aid - which at the time was cheaper) and it's not as good as any Kitchen Aid one I have used in the past.

For a start it looks rubbish, as MC says, Kitchen Aids look beautiful.

Kitchen aid. As far as I am aware the difference between the cheaper classic and the more expensive Artisan models is you can choose your colour in the Artisan ones whereas classic only comes in one colour - white.
We have the classic one, got it for £100-ish from Amazon a few years ago. It takes a little while to get to know the machine and what settings to use but when you get the hand of it it's fantastic.
