Assistance/Advice Required on behalf of elderly grandparent due to problem with Curry's

    Basically,they have a 4 year old washing machine and bought a 5 year guarantee(I know,I know....)

It has been knackered for 3 weeks now and the engineers that keeps coming are cowboys, after 1st attempt to fix it broke within 10 mins,2nd time had wrong parts and they are now waiting for parts again.

Been 3 weeks with no washing machine,I have offered to buy them another but,he will not have any of it,wanting to use the guarantee etc.

oh and Curry's state that it can be upto 2 months before they would consider replacing with a new one

Curry's CS just pass me from dept to dept on phone, emails are unanswered.

Anyone have any suggestions, ideas of working emails and suchlike

    Thanks in advance

I would try to put a clam in for going to a laundrette, what is it 3-4 washes a week at £3-4 each so thats £48 they owe you insurance is insurance, ask them about it if they wont / cant fix it cos they are incompedent

Hope you get it sorted soon

What does the warranty say about repairs and timing?

I know it's a bit drastic, but I'd play on their age saying you're considering taking this to watchdog / trading standards or Age Concern because of the difficulties of elderly people having to wash clothes with arthritis by hand.

Have you contacted any of the above services? I would.

I guess you will restricted by the contract you signed with them. Even so, if it gets unreasonable e.g. comms stop for weeks then you would have some reason to ask for Curry's to act or take it to the local trading standards office and take your contract with you.

there is no proper wording on it,sadly he doesn't have the original paperwork just a letter that came through the post from what I got form Curry's on the phone they can take upto 6-8 week to repair, which is a joke

Played on that with Currys, spoke about bad PR they could get, monkey on phone not bothered, could just do with getting through to someone with half a brain

I think trading standards would say that 6 to 8 weeks to fix a washer isn't on.

I'd call them back and ask them for the name of their CS director and tell they he'll be getting a call from trading standards who will explain to him how it's supposed to work. . .

thanks to all above for replies

I had a similar problem with my whatever happens with DSG I got a new washing machine as part of the agreement after 30 days I think

When our machine broke it took weeks to repair and when I contacted trading Stds they said it was fine to take that long.

some useful advice here , dont know if it will help at all?

was it aftermarket warranty with mastercare?

The law considers 30 days to be acceptable, beyond that is considered unreasonable. This from the time you first reported the fault. Use trading standards to best advantage and get Currys to either pay for a laundry service, supply a temporary machine whilst yours is repaired or just replace it, their choice.

Pay a visit to the CAB (Citizen's advice Bureau) - it's completely free and they'll tell you precisely what you're legally entitled to.

When phoning them, insist on speaking to a manager.
And when you do, stay calm..shouting wont get you anywhere
Make sure they know your not happy, and will be contacting Age Concern, Watchdog, etc, Local Radio etc if itrs not fixed ASAP.
Lots of radio shows chase these sort of problems up for you,

great result......but such a shame that it had to get that far before it was resolved. We had a similar ( not quite as bad) situation with a dishwasher from currys. Vowed never to buy from them again.
You sound like such a lovely grandson......good on you Boothy xx
