Dad & uncle have them , comfortable to drive and great engine, never had problems with them

But you may wish to drive them both, to see which you prefer

Are there any restrictions on taking cars for a test drive, ie age?

Dunno could be 21, you need to ask at the garage.

I have actually, my brother has one and its such a nice car, but i think that, along with the golf is slightly out of my budget

Yeah will do, Thanks

Focus? Better chassis.

Astra? Better diesel engines, the 1.9 cdti is 150 brake, get the SRI 1.9.

Overall, much of a muchness bud, Astra for the engine, Focus is prolly a better all round package

The Astra 1.9cdti could be 120 or 150 brake, if it has a red TI then its will be the 150 brake unless someoe has changed the badge, you can also check by looking at the oil filler cap , 120 on the left 150 on the right, HTH

Aren't the new Focus Diesels very economical? Plus they come with a lot of gadgetry as standard.

focus, a proper driver's car. even jezza likes them

Honda civic 0% finance deals on a the minute also

Astra new type, I've been driving the new van for 3 years and just swapped it waiting for another.
The van is car based estate and the drive is great, smooths out speed bumps.
It had a 13cdi yes 1300 diesel turbo lol, just don't pull out in front of a push bike but 6gear doing 55 touch it and your at 90 in seconds. 70-80 on mway it gives 600 to tank.

Thanks for all your replies. My limit is 8K, which ive seen at arnold clark i could get a good deal.. But i still wana try the car auctions and see if i can get something cheaper. Overall looks wise, i think im swaying more towards the astra than the focus. It seems more of a married couple with kids type of car lol!

having driven both i would have to base decision on mileage you are going to be doing and type of roads.
Focus is firmer sportier drive which is great on short distances but the astra is a tad more comfortable and softer seats/suspension.
otherwise spec vs cost etc they about the same.
Also avoid the pre 05 focus which is lacking in power.

I reckon i would do alot of motorway miles on it anyway, i normally travel from glasgow to manchester every so often.

Do the astras have an mp3 connecting thing in it? or would i need to get one installed?

this is not standard with the cars, they vary depending on which model stereo was requested, don't use an mp3 or ipod as i'm always in the car lol so have never payed much attention to connectors
eg my 6 month old vectra only has a basic cd player in whilst my mrs 04 astra does mp3 playback off a cd and the 05 tdci focus i got rid of in jan/feb only had a basic cd with no connection ability.
