Tip 1 - Use the power button to turn it on.

Tip 1 - Use the power button to turn it on.

Surely that should be :-
Tip 1 - Charge battery

no-pay for it first

Surely that should be :-Tip 1 - Charge battery

Typically the battery comes partially charged with new computers Similar to new phones.

Technically, the first tip should have been to unpackage the box, then insert the battery, but since this is just a tips thread, it can occur in any order (I guess).

I dunno.

DVD Drive access info from rysio101

About DVD drive... You need to remove keyboard first and under it unscrew one bolt.
Removing keyboard is kind tricky at some point because You need to be very carrefour to not scratch it.

Fitting an SSD

visitorx

edit: i forgot to add one thing that before you remove your harddrive … edit: i forgot to add one thing that before you remove your harddrive copy this folder into external drive"eSupport"it cantains all the drivers and all software that comes with asus preinstalled, once fresh windows is installed in SSD just goto this folder from external drive and goto folder driver launch the .exe file and it will give you a big menu to choose from includes all apps n drivers.. i clicked all as i find that asus software is likable hope it helps and will save you hassle... if you dont install the driver for usb your left usb single slot (which is beleive is usb3.0) wont work yes not even for usb 2.0ok the wait is now over heres a tutorial how to install ssd drive into your ASUS A53EDICONNECT POWER CABLE AND REMOVE BATTERY BEFORE U START THIS V IMPORTANT1. Remove the two screws marked making sure scew driver is perfect fit otherwise might damage scews and slide the cover gently downwards (dont pull) and it will slide down with ease.2. This is how it will look. Towards left is hdd caddy screwed and on right side is the ram.. we are only interested in the left side.3. Identify 4 scews and unscew them with same size screwdriver you used to remove cover, and slide caddy gently towards left it will pop off the sata connector take it out4. Unscew the drive from caddy there are 4 scews like this in total.5. Caddy after removing hdd

lol they started the counter 12 secs after swiching it on and stopped it … lol they started the counter 12 secs after swiching it on and stopped it a sec before the boot had finished

We r only talking about boot time here which is the first appearance of starting windows till appearance of mouse arrow

measuring time from pressing power button is non sense as it would also include bios post time and the checks bios goes through in asus fancy start that will also include display of asus logo and music playback time so if ur not sure what u r talking about better be hush

disk is only accessed when windows is starting to boot and thats exactly what we have measured here disk access time during cold OS bootup

previously this was approx 34-35sec on a normal 5400 hdd

Any decent snug fitting cases?

Hi guys thanks for making this page, for some reason I cant find this laptop no matter how hard I try on the asus website instead it gives me a k53sd type model K53SD-SX101V which is what I am guessing is the newer model being released next month and is about 150 pounds more expensive with exactly the same specs but with a aluminium body and a nvidia graphics card. So does any one have a link to this laptop for the official asus site? Also is there any aluminium on this laptop? I know the top is made of plastic but the area around the keyboard is that also plastic?

Top and bottom is plastic but midddle part around keyboard is made from brushed aluminium.
Body is the same as K53SD...

rysio thx for the info and the link, it is the same link I have been viewing it might seem the same but it isnt, that link shows a K series laptop which might seem similar to the eye but has a brushed aluminium texture finish at the top lid aswell and has a dedicated nvidia graphics card which is why its more expensive here is the link to a website selling it, see this is the problem I cant find the A series at all on the asus website

I just purchased a 4gb on your link thanks.. it says 2 memory slots on crucial, but you talked about removing a 2gb to put the 4gb in....surely it must have 3x slots then?

No, no, no... removing one 2GB from one slot. There are only two slots.
Factory settings are 2 + 4 GB

I've tried registering mine through the Internet.
It asks for the serial number on the bottom of the laptop, but I can't find it.
Is it the number at the bottom of the swipe bar?

Or as tintin says could someone give us the Tel numbers please?
