This is the real effect of politics and why we need more debate not less.
The European governments and the IMF are as usual trying to make ordinary people pay for the crisis created by the market and big business.
Time to make the super rich pay for the problems created under a system that sees them make money in good times and make money in bad.

Haven't the greek always been a little shy when it comes to paying tax and now it's biting them in the ass?

"Blessed are the Greeks, for they shall inherit the Earth"

Correct me if I am wrong but did I not read in the press that public sector workers retired at 53 with two months bonus in wages per year. If thats how they did things then I am not to suprised that its all gone a wrong.

Not unless they pay their taxes first

In this country it's only the rich that get to avoid taxes and they do it enough for all of us!!

I don't have any preferences to any sources, I just read different ones and make my own mind up. My mind hasn't been made up on this, I just thought the article was interesting.

I think it is important to recognise that the source of the information in a factor in judging its credibility. People should seek out as many sources as possible, but experience will lead most to rely on some more than others, and completely disregard a few.
The Daily Mail is on my disregard list as is the Sun. In my experience they specialise in printing lies to forward their rich owners agenda

The article I linked to doesn't actually contradict your article. They're covering the same story from different angles.

I rarely read the Mail, in fact the only time I do is when articles are linked here. There isn't a single news agency I trust 100%.

On news 24 reporter relayed a story, with reference to the greek situation, of a person who had one job but didnt turn up as they were working at another
Made me recall this as it sounded familiar. He does not seem to be much more than a part timer if the numerology section stats are to be believed.

    But are the gardens hidden?
    from the Daily Mail article...
Here’s an example. It decided that if you own a swimming pool, you must, by definition, be pretty well-off and therefore you should be paying a certain amount in tax. If not, you’re in trouble.
And, of course, it’s easy for officialdom to spot the pool owners: they just look at the pictures conveniently provided on the website Google Earth. So what do the owners do? They cover their pools with green covers so that it looks as though they have nice, big lawns. Old habits die hard.

There is a major problem with that though, it seems they mistakenly believe Google Earth is up to date or a live feed?

This is the kind of right wing rubbish that passes as simple facts.
So Greece is in trouble because they have well tended hospitals?

I look at our local hospital, it also has no garden as such, but it does have much outdoor space that would need tending year round.

In a country like Greece the growth in the climate would be much higher. I am also pretty sure these people deal with litter etc that accumulates around any public building.

I therefore don't find this number of people doing this work in a large public building shocking. It is only in our do nothing market run hospitals that we find it acceptable to let everything go to seed to save the profits of the privatised companies that run things.

People on the streets demanding MPs make the rich pay for the problems they created rather than us being made to pay.

    Sounds good to me.

The point is I guess not will there be a price to pay for the crisis but who will pay it.

That is being played out in Greece at the moment and maybe soon to spread across Europe. The European Leaders want the millions of ordinary people to pay while the rich continue to live the life they believe they deserve.
The Greek people are taking to the streets to say make the rich pay first.

Should they not be taking the streets to say that the rich and the poor should BOTH pay. There seems to be an idealogy going around that the rich should be the ons to foot the bill for everything. Equality will never be achieved with your outlook onlife.

I said that the rich should pay first. when they have used up the massive amount of money they have accumulated then it will be time for ordinary workers to pay also.

Equality has never been achieved by Capitalism and in my opinion never will. What they should really be on the streets doing is fighting for a whole new system where everybody pays and everybody benefits.

For instance to listen to the Financial news you could easily forget it was the madness of the market that got us into this mess. They are reporting that the "Markets" are upset about the developments in Greece. What about the millions that are having to pay for the out and out gambling that went on for years while Stockbrokers made more money than they knew what to do with.

As I have said before it is about time we ignored the Market and looked at what peoples needs are.

Have we got enough food and resources to share out in the world so everyone can have a good life?

The answer is yes. Time it was shared out properly and Markets were sent the way of the dinosaur.

It won't be the UK in 5 years with the BNP in power - There wouldn't be a Greek in sight!

Two fascist party leaders - Connection is obvious.
If you actually read the post you would understand the reference. It was about whether the BNP being in power would lead to people coming onto the streets. I think the example of mussolini is apt.

3 dead as protests turn … 3 dead as protests turn violent,http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8661385.stm

It is tragic, but when you try to destroy peoples lives and futures on this scale there is going to be violence at some point.
People are dying all over the world because the Markets demand drugs are not cloned cheaply or water companies must make profits rather than develop larger networks of clean water. Other people live their whole lives on Rubbish heaps while others live with massive pollution caused by the oil companies.

Violence in endemic under this system.

That is why it needs to go.
