    ATM's?

Does anyone else check the amount of cash that it spits out to make sure it gives you the right amount?

The reason i ask is that my girlfriend always sits and laughs and asks me why i am checking it.

I always check it; anyone else do this?

Human error happens as you can see by the amount of news stories of bank staff putting the wrong notes in lol

I once received double, glad I didn't spend it as they still took the correct amount from my account.

I never check it... in London when you get money out an ATM you pocket it fast and walk away quick.... lol

Having said that the main body of my pay, I usually get paid in cash from individuals so I rarely use the ATM and have taught my daughters to always try and use the ones inside the bank as I presume it's slightly safer.

i dont need to. when i empty my account its normally either £10 or £20  i blame this site! hehe

    why would you do that:thinking:

you would rather the banks have their biliions in bonuses than the odd windfall for the average punter which generally are never chased down

i use the ones inside the banks and still check .

Yes - you do need to check. ATM's are prone to faults, and it is not uncommon for a note jam to occur which may mean it dispenses the wrong amount. In theory the ATM should realise it's mistake and either deduct the correct amounut from your account, or alternatively "charge back" the amount it did not dispense.

However, sometimes this does not happen. In these circumstances you will need to speak to your card issuer who will arrange for a claim to be raised against the owner of the ATM. They will then check the Electronic Journal (sort of black box of events) of the ATM in question, and also balance the ATM to see if it is "up". You then get your money back.

In the rare circumstances that ATM's are incorrectly filled, and therefore more is given out that should have been the ATM owners are entitled to claim this money back from you. Remember in the same way they can trace a transaction back to see if you were not given enough money, the records will detail all of those cards which were used between the machine being filled, and inevitably when giving out double money when it went out of cash.

It is actually classed as theft to use a mahine you know is giving out more money than it should be and then to keep the money with no intention of returning it - check the definition of theft, although it is highly unlikely that criminal charges would be made. However, in practise the cost of investigating and contacting each customer means it is sometimes easier for the company to write it off - but this does not always happen.

How do I know - In a previous job I used to look after the maintenence of ATM's for a number of companies.

I left 3 year's ago after my colleagues suicide due to job and bullying.

I'm sorry to hear that. The only dealings I ever had with G4S were their CIT crews and Engineers, never really spoke to any management, but always got the impression they were understaffed, and the staff had a lot of work pushed on them.

The CIT crews are lovely, very genuine honest people and I still speak to many of them.

The management are completely useless at managing staff who have a very difficult job to do.
