ATX Power Supply wanted

Found 24th Jul 2007
I need a basic ATX power supply for my youngest daughters PC. 250-300 watts would be sufficient. I just want the cheapest delivered unit.

Many thanks

Tip off, if you work with computers then ask your tech support people, they often have bundles of **** just boxed up in cabinets and are willing to give them away.

Other than that just ebuyer e.t.c, google the company names before you buy because there are some very very bad cheap chinese companies out there.

I wouldn't be looking for the "cheapest delivered unit" if I were you, power supply's are one thing not to skimp on, if they go or aren't supplying the right voltages they can damage other parts of your system. I personally wouldn't buy anything other than Antec, Coolermaster, Seasonic, Enermax etc. all are reliable brands that offer at least 2yr warranties on their PSU's. Something like this: ]http//ww…928 perhaps.

Although I'd spend an extra few £ on an energy efficient model like this: ]http//ww…375, you'll soon save the extra on your electricity bill.

Also you didn't specify whether you needed SATA etc. connectors, not all PSU's come with all the power connectors you might need.

Thanks for the responses.

The PC is about 5/6 years old and is extremely basic but it is used by my daughter for internetting and occasional school work on Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

The Antec is overkill and the previous generic PSU has only just given up so I reckon that the cheapest unit will be sufficient.

]This one looks good to me at about £10'ish delivered.

just be careful it dont destroy the pc, catch fire, and then explode

Somehow I dont think that eBuyer would stock anything so dodgy (eBay maybe). Plus it had loads of good reviews.

Thanks for your concern though.

Purchased one of the cheaper ones from ebuyer before. It works fine but the fan is very noisy. I would consider spending a little more or buy some ear protectors for your daughter

Hah! She's just turned 12 so the noise she generates will easily cover the sound of the fan. It'll also encourage her to switch it off when she goes to bed. :giggle:
