Auction Snipers

I know it's not exactly fair but I've seen something I want on Fleabay and can't get to a PC at 1:00pm tomorrow lunch - has anyone ever used (and can recommend) a decent free auction sniper tool?

Can't you just put your maximum bid and let ebay do it for you?

I have never understood sniping....
I know what is the maximum I will pay for an item and bid that - if I am outbid - I always would have been, if I get it cheaper its a bonus, cant see what all the fuss is about, waiting for last 10 seconds to bid - just bid and forget thats my method.
For the life of me I cannot see that sniping makes the slightest difference - I did read somwhere that Ebay were thinking of extending an auction by 10 mins as soon as someone bids in the last minute - I think that would be a good idea.

Auction might go on forever if someone keeps bidding last minute!

I think in card terms that's called 'showing your hand'

real auctions dont have a time limit - if you were selling, you would want all bids in before closing an auction?
and lets face it - there is an upper limit that people will pay for anything so hardly go on for long would they...lol

but your NOT showing your hand are you -until they outbid you that is at which point you have lost anyway and always would have done

Well... no. Let's say I have a limit of £20 for said item, I bid now and place my proxy bid of £20 leaving other interested parties 15 hours in which to place to bids and suss out my ultimate bid, yes? Or... I use a sniper which bids my £20 5 seconds before the auction is due to close leaving no time for anyone esle to counter my bid... unless that is the original proxy bid is over £20 or someone else uses a sniper with a higher limit than me.

It's all about timing...

I always use an auction sniper as to not start a 'bidding war'.
]JustSnipe will put a bid in 8 seconds before the end of an auction.
It gives you 5 free snipes a week. If you require more you have to pay but I've never bid for more than 5 things in a week before.

Oh and thanks for taking the time to respond dazzyb - rep left.

There is nothing worse than watching an item you want to buy and seeing a couple of numpties bidding against each other ages before the end of the auction.

I've used esnipe before which is free for a while and then you pay $1 per item won (from memory). A good additional feature of esnipe is that if you want a certain thing you can select a load of listings of this item, set your max price and it will keep bidding until you win one and then it will stop. I found this handy when I wanted to buy a cot bed as I set it for all the ones near me and just left it to it.

Finally anyone who is against sniping has to much money to spend on ebay. IMHO.

I often use a sniper as it prevents me from getting "caught in the moment" and bidding way over what I had originally intended, who hasn't been outbit on their max amount in the last few minutes and thought 'I can't let it got for that' and increased your bid. There is also no doubt that it saves you money. I use www.bidnip.com - I assume it's the same for all of them, you only use your credits up when you actually win the auction. Get 5 free when you sign up.

I also use Justsnipe, and it's great. If people increase their bids by small increments each time they can actually tell what your bid is when they reach it (unless you're very lucky). Using an auction sniper stops this.

I used ]auctionsniper....as many have said.. it stops you getting in a bidding battle..

I do it manually. I'm very good at submitting a bid with "1 second remaining" - it's all about multiple windows!!
