I don't know if automatic is a good choice. After passing an exam you can only drive those cards. It severely limits the the choice of cars especially used ones. The prices for automatic cards are also much higher.
If her car breaks and you drive manual she won't be a key to use it.
Better to pass a manual test, and then have the option between both.

As as it's been stated automatic licence is only for automatics.
She'd have to resit the test in order to drive manual which in the UK is a big limitation as there aren't automatically cars about.

Thanks. I totally understand what you say. My wife is not confident in driving a manual car. But she needs to drive for work so she has made her mind to go for automatic. No clutch. No gears. No car rolling back on stops. So she has these points to consider. Going for a manual might put her to high risk of accident n more expenses via insurance.

You can still stall and kangaroo an automatic. It's really not difficult to master a manual.

Well i totally agree with you. I drive a manual so i know its not hard.

My friends' daughter recently passed her test in an auto, we are in Swansea. She purchased the car and found an instructor who was willing to teach her in it. She had to start in car parks as her car didn't have dual controls, but after a few hours progressed to the road and passed very quickly.

Your missing the point if she passes in a manual she can drive automatics and manual.
If she passes in an automatic she can only drive automatics.

Better to have full licence and only drive automatics, then have automatic licence and need to drive manual and not be able too.
Think of it as future proofing her licence

Im getting your point but mrs is not keen in going for manual. Don't want to force her either so only sticking with the option of going for automatic alone.

Hi, his name is Mark O'Neill and his ph. is 01792 233039.
I just spoke to the parents of the girl. Apparently he took her out for the first few driving lessons, then they largely taught her themselves, with a few brush up lessons before the test. Their opinion is that using an auto takes about 50% of the effort out of learning as it is pretty much point and go.
Only hitch might be that he is in Pennard which is a fair distance from Port Talbot, but speak to him. I do actually know him, but hadn't realised that he had done the auto teaching for our friend. He taught both my kids to drive with passes at first attempt. Incredibly patient guy, with a very calm way of teaching.
