    Autoroute - But Walking

I'm looking for somewhere to live, but need to factor in the fact my OH starts work before public transport runs and he has to walk/cycle in.

I've googled - but maybe looking blindly, I'm after an auto route which I can set to find the quickest route to walk to the destination I need

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks - but I can't see a walking option?

asking the local people is probably the best option as there are always some shortcut which are not registered in any of the sat nav software (ate least I haven't found one :)). I have been looking for ane which will actually tell you all the shortcuts but it seems like the software are mostly made for proper road users (car, bike, etc) and not for pedestrian.

Why don't you use google earth to plan your route ?

I prefer Google maps, you don't need a location name or even a postcode, just click the start and end locations on the map. But as siewmk said these sites give driving directions ( even if you select the walking option ). Alternatively you can use Marengo GPS route planner to plan a route. This has Google maps embedded, but instead of asking it to decide the route, you click on the map to create a series of waypoints and it will tell you how long the route is. It will allow you to plot a route where no roads or even footpaths exist.
