    Av Receiver Fan Fault

My AV Receiver even when it gets damn hot doesnt seem to kick in the fan...any ideas on how to test it or reckon its easy enough to replace to see if it is the maybe the actual fan that is broken?

    Which receiver is it?

In all honesty I have an Onkyo 605 that gets dead hot, even really hot in standby, but have never ever heard a fan kick in but I do know if it was to ever overheat it would just turn itself off.

got a Technics SA-DA8, fairly aged now but does 5.1 DD, DTS, and an array of optical inputs and thus is still brilliant!

Yeah see i know they get hot but in the old stand for it it had no top ventalation and i drilled holes in the side to vent it and it got even hotter then and never did i hear a fan! Thus im thinking maybe its broke...but maybe not!

the fan doesnt look dusty at all though! the fan is externally mounted, its not internal to the machine.
