    Avatar BluRay

just a quick FYI for those planning on getting this when it comes out on monday. its causing playback problems with loads of different brand players. you might want to do some research before you pickup a copy. i've tried it on both my players (sharp hp20 and hp21) and it won't play properly on either and says it needs a firmware update. i'm using latest firmware and sharp are aware of issues but no ETA on an update. samsungs pioneers and quite a few others are suffering from similar problems.

Films run faster on dvd/blu than at the cinema...

The problems certain players have is down to the encryption they used on the Avatar Blu-Ray. They used the latest one in attempt to stop pirates copying it and releasing it online etc. It kept them at bay until Thursday...

not true... Buying the DVD/Blu-ray gives you access to the Exclusive … not true... Buying the DVD/Blu-ray gives you access to the Exclusive online Avatar Program which offers benefits such as... First-look at all-new content updates including interviews, unseen footage and special features. The purchased disk doesn't include these extras so they can be continually updated, welcome to 2010.

    welcome to the

    Special Edition

The November 2010 release will feature three cuts of the movie: the "basic movie", as theatrically released; an extended cut with 6 minutes of fully finished footage seamlessly added back in; and an earlier cut of the film that has 30 or 35 minutes of additional footage, some of which will be in unfinished form. Cameron explained: "it will be a little bit more like some of the Disney stuff that they do where they leave pencil tests in for scenes that were never done. That's really more of a fan's exploration of what the movie might have been, or a lot of the ideas that fed into it."

Additionally, the disc will offer a picture-in-picture with "just the reference cameras of the capture." This will be a parallel cut, matching the finished movie shot by shot. "It doesn't look like the movie, but the essence of it and the moment is exactly what you see in the final film. It's just people in black leotards. It's pretty wild. It's pretty amazing."

why try and wrong me  loser

So the November edition will offer 3 versions of the film, not extras … So the November edition will offer 3 versions of the film, not extras such as interviews, special features, news, galleries that IS included with the April release, just not on the disk?oh and don't make this personal dickweed.

    lol @ dickweed loser boi

To bridge the gap between the April and November releases, Fox is launching the interactive "Avatar Program." Through a unique code found inside the Avatar Blu-ray/DVD, consumers can register at avatarmovie.com and gain exclusive access to first-look bonus materials, special content and money saving offers (reportedly, registered users will receive an e-coupon good towards the purchase of the future special-edition Blu-ray of Avatar.

    yo bridging the gap boi

so contradicting your original post there, glad you admitted you were … so contradicting your original post there, glad you admitted you were wrong.peace.

its not on disc, contradicted nothing, the online shizzle is the bridge gap until the Spec Ed which will include all the bonus material on disc, plus the 3 film edits

web crap is still web crap, its lazy and cheap, like your understanding of this, so I'm guessing you'll also buy the Spec Ed Edition of this too, being the fan boy you are.

I have never watched any special features of any DVD/Bluray ever, probably never will either.

Each to their own but it's no biggie for me

I'm with you here. I'm a huge movie fan too but have no interest in seeing how they're made, I'm with Spielberg and Allen on that.

you're looked confused by 24p?....i.e films at the cinema are shot at 24 frames per second, and most HD tvs and bluray players now play blurays back at 24p so you experience the full cinema effect.

Thats why I mentioned the difference in timings on the box and from imdb there is a diff of 7 mins which I assume I caused from one set of timings being taken from the dvd which plays back at 25fps and the other timing taken from the cinema which plays back at 24fps.

or maybe Im just spouting crap and confusing things lol

Nah you're on the right lines, same as what I meant. It just gets a bit confusing and I couldn't be bothered to think about it. I used to be into framerates and all that in the days of manual avi/dvd conversions.

That sounds pretty much how I know it...

    That's how Cinema/Hi-Def is shot/encoded right?
