    average food bills per week.

hi all just been reading some blog that says the average food bill for a family of 5 is £150 weekly just wondering what you all think.

i no where near spend that much and we are a family of 5.

what do you all spend on your weekly food bill and for how many in your household.

    i spead roughly £ 150 a month on a family of 4

    2 adults and 2 kids £90 ish.

this includes nappies, washing powder etc. not too sure how much exactly is food.

plus one take away a week @ £20

depends on if you are including stuff from vending machines and cafes. as these can be hidden costs not thought of as part of food bill.

yeah i spend roughly £60 a week for 5 sometimes £80 if i need to stock up on tolietries and maybe a takeaway for £20 no more than once a week. £150 a week is way too much!

Its difficult to calculate, I can often spen d very little one week because I have loads of stuff in the freezer and cupboards but a few weeks later I spend a fortune because I am restocking, I suppose on avaerage I spend about £100 a week for six of us and the animals.

its all tricky statics cos low income familys can get free school meals which would costs the rest of us £2.00 approx per day per child.

2 kids for a month is £80 worth of school meals.

i am not knocking kids on free school meals, its just how you interpret the data.

Just me and the OH, we probably spend about £100-150 per month at the supermarket and probably a similar amount on eating out. But we both have good jobs, and no kids hence, why we treat ourselves so often, with organic and free range foodstuffs, and eating out at our fave restaurants.

i know what you mean we are on a low income since my partner was made redundant back in june but he is now back in work but on less pay so we get working tax credit and because we get the working tax credit we are not entitled to free school meals.

i am like this. i buy the max amount of BOGOF's if they are good and put them in the outside freezer. i HATE having to pay for a pizza at full price.

I shall, and appreciate I am in a fortunate position, and will never forget the days of attempting to feed myself on £5 for two weeks.

    just your weekly supermarket run.

Between £5 and £100 a week for two...

Difficult to say - we certainly don't do a weekly shop - if there really is not food in the house then I'll get a takeaway or pick up a couple of bits on the way home...

i remember those days. but i didn't feel poor, it was a great adventure being a student. we used to get broken buscuits and open pasta packets realy cheap from kingston market. we thought it was great.

my seven year old son is worried about the credit crunch and i explained to him that we could live off far less money than we do now and still be happy.

I spend about £50 a week (just for me) but I mainly buy organic stuff

Those days were great but I was a different person then, it was a mission to save money on food so I could buy vodka :whistling: I had my priorities sorted back then.

i buy the value toliet rolls and food bags all drinks and snacks are the on offer ones any bogoffs that come in handy for school lunches and bags potatoes veg and meat i head for the chicken on offer alot as i make currys, chicken cassoroles, sweet and sour chicken and the good old roast dinner. we eat fairly well but i always buy biscuits and crisps but our meals are not fast food types all the time. i also use the voucher codes on here on my tesco shop when i do it online.

    We probably spend about that.

I try to hit sainsburys mid meet and go to their meat counter, they have some fantastic reductions some times and I just buy as much as I can. you can get great joints of meat that you can cut up yourself if you dont want to roast it for little money.

I also trawl the frozen section every so often to see if things are discontinued. Earlier this year I got 9 legs of lamb for 1.62 each. A fantastic family roast or cut it up for curries etc. Sometimes the freezer is just too small.

A rough estimate would be about £30 a week and there is just myself. I have got used to being able to buy named brands and some organic stuff, but I can see that having to stop as not only is there a credit crunch but my job has become very, very unstable and it's freaking me out.

    I spend around £100 a week maybe £110 fro 2 adults,3 kids and 3 cats.Including 2 lots of nappies so i don,t think that's too bad.

My mum spends £120 thats after her discount, for 4 of us, we also end up going back during the week for more bread and milk.
