    Avis 'Pay-Now' Payments

Picked up a car yesterday from Avis and pre-paid for it on the website. Is it standard practice for them to swipe your card at the desk even though no further payment is due?? I dont see why they should as they already have my details.

It is probably to cover them in case of any damage to the vehicle.

It will be for the extras that they may try and charge. They billed me for fuel treatment when we hired a diesel in the snow, even though there were signs in English clearly saying that you were responsible for adding treatments if you were going to cold areas. I queried it saying that I hadn't asked for fuel treatment and that we had bought our own and added it and the charge was refunded. You just need to check you paperwork when you return the car. They will bill for fuel if you leave it empty and have not prepaid for fuel all those kinds of things.

They will take your card details in case of speeding/parking fines and damage to their car. Pretty standard with hire companies
