He just wants to be a pampered pooch, but I'd probably do the same as pcnutta:oops::-D

Weve had two dogs now, the first one cried for the first couple of nights, but we didnt go down and see her and soon it stopped.
Our current dog, whos now 1 when we first got her cried the first night but we didnt go and see her, and after the first night shes been as good as gold

Try putting a radio on quietly in the room with ur puppy. Worked for my 2 dogs when they were pups.

You could also try putting some item of your clothing down for the puppy to sleep on this sometimes helps. But you must resist on going down when she cries.

aw bless i don't blame you hun, my dogs have always slept in our bedroom in a cage so always close for a cuddle when a puppy but i am so glad a few years back we were burgled whilst sleeping my pup was about 4 months old and so glad she was in with me.

can we see piccies please lol

You could try putting a well wrapped up hot water bottle in the puppies bed.

cage them, don't cuddle them when crying, stick an old tied up bundle of socks or a sweater in for them to cuddle into.

it's a dogs way to exercise it's authority and whilst it may seem harsh, you are going down the line of not establishing yourself as "pack leader" when you give in to it's demands.

nip it in the bud or, trust me, you'll rue it!!!

Yeah we just leave the pups we have had previously to cry, or they will go longer and longer each night crying...bless its sooooooooooo hard thought.

Currently im weaning 6 wks old pups off mum and they whine and cry at night, but i have to ignore them, as they have food and water down.

    pics of puppy?!

ahhhh ok i wont come down tonight...gosh it will be hard to do though.. cos he just give me those eyes! loll brb taking some pics

Your little puppy is adorable :-D
And you are right about those eyes...very cute!

    Aww, he's lovely

    Awwwwwwww!!

    HOW CUTE is he/she!!!!?!!?!?

DON'T isten to the nasty trolls!

#You give in to the CUTEST pup ever, and go and cuddle the poor thing when it needs one!

Let's face it - you would want one too if you were crying...

Then when pooch has calmed down.... you can.....

Well, repeat after me - till it gets the message and you don't get much sleep - that you are not that far away anyway!

    LOL!

Tell you wot though - if I had a pooch that cute, it would be staying in the same room as me with its own likkle bed, just so that I could keep my eyes on it and stroke it and so on..
The thought of leaving the poor pup in a cold kitchen or equivelant would brak my heart - not to mention the scratching and chewing of the door furniture etc!

Much rather have the cutie with me!

awww hon the puppy must be lonely.. missing his mum

try letting him have an old sweater or something of yours when you go off to bed like a cuddle blanket for a child it might ease his separation anxiety

Our big mutt sleeps on the floor by our bed x x

Seriously... if you didnt youre gonna end up with a totally spoilt misbehaving dog who thinks its the pack leader....bad thing :?

i agree but its all about balance as a puppy they have left a bed of lots of company to a new life it is scary, give him a cuddle from me lol

lol , put it like this... are you willing to get up every single night and do this? cos all you have taught it so far is....if it cries for long enough you come and see it. It will do it every night as long as you keep coming. Upto you suppose

We did try and let it him cry, and he cried, and cried and cried!
Oh got up once, i said not to make fuss of him, but just put him back in basket and walk away.
Then 30 mins later he started again....... I left him till 6.30 this morning. ( didnt get a wink of sleep as he cried continually) I then got up with him.

He doesnt cry at all in the day when hes around people, just at night.

would you consider having his basket in the bedroom?

Unfortunately dogs are not aware of time or how long they have been crying lol, all it will know is that if it keeps it up... eventually you come in.

Why puppies cry like that is because it thinks it is lost and is letting its 'mother' know where it is so it can come and rescue it. A natural trait you need to ween him off.

Ignore completely (may take 2 nights may take 2 weeks) and he will learn that you dont come so will not bother wasting energy crying.

I might have to resort to that. I will give the ignoring thing a go... maybe invest in some ear plugs!

hey how did the wedding go? will we see pics? xxx

Welcome to the world of dog ownership lol

You have to do like you would do with a child, go to him when he cries, settle him and then leave him with something that smells strongly of you so he feels comforted by it.

He will cry again. This time wait a minute before going in to him. Again, comfort him and leave.

He will cry again. This time leave it two minutes, go in comfort him and leave.

Keep increasing the amount of time spent before you are responding to him till its well over half an hr. ( this is going to exhaust you I know but you have to wean him from this )

As others have said this is perfectly normal behaviour for a lonely pup crying for his Mummy. When you see him in the morning, make sure you make a big fuss of him and take him for a walk before you have to leave the house to start your day or he will be crying constantly for you.

If he begins other activities that show he may be distressed ( such a gnawing on the furniture or the walls ) reconsider your position x x

    sound advice, thanks.

His little tail waggles all the time when hes around us. Hes happiest laying next to me cuddling into me. He has let me groom him and seems to like it. I took him into the garden and the fun he had with the rabbits was amazing!
They jumped, played, run around, it was lovely!

Hes not attempted to knaw or chew anything YET! lol

Hes a mummys boy already! lol
