Ok hands up those who are not backing stuff up ?

I ask as I recover my 200g D drive after it decided to go AWOL. Had a 40g partition for Vista the rest for storage, then I format and restore XP on my C drive. Oh! were did the D drive go grrrrrr

bought a 500gb external to do back ups after nearly losing 200gb's worth of family photo's - was a real wake up call. Now do a back up on a monthly basis, just to be on the safe side

yeah ! its all my pics music video, put most on the store part ready to back up on dvd lol, then it whent b4 I finished :x
Now lookin at ext drives too.

If you get Hirens disk it has get back ntfs, real good and should still recover files even after reinstall

Problem I have is that my external 500GB HDD that I bought to back-up onto has packed in.

If it just vanished, you could try something like Knoppix to see if it can read anything from the partition, but yep the best time to back stuff up is generally two seconds after you've lost something.

I keep my valuable data backed up in five places, may sound daft but you never know what's coming and the data can't be replaced. Been through it too many times having to tell people their data is gone and they should be taking backups...
