Worth spending some time at kayak.co.uk if you haven't already

the taxes (£159 to Spore and £195 to Msia) are quite expensive making it more than £500. it's also peak holiday time that you're thinking of travelling mind you, flights are extra expensive about £100 at least.

eg. (i get a mailing list from lee's travel, last time i flew 3 years ago was £301 incl taxes)
if you fly 7 apr - 15 jun return (excl taxes) £410 from London, £430 from manchester
if you fly 19 aug - 31 aug it's £495 (excl tax) from London, £515 from manchester

if you fly on restricted flights (Thurs and Sun only) from Heathrow & Gatwick
16 jun - 30 jun £480 to KL, Msia and £425 to Spore (excl tax)
16 aug - 31aug £500 (Msia) and £445 to Spore (excl tax)

you could also try emirates (stopover in dubai?).

if you PM me i'll PM you back with their contact details.

i would suggests you to forget it and just book the cheapest flight available. The reason is because you are going at the PEAK SEASON and if you could get around £600-£700, I would consider that is cheap. I check the flights for a few years already and the only thing i found it the price just keep on going up dus to increase in fuel surcharge. The is possibly a new low cost airline (easyjet alike but run by Malaysian) called Air Asia who has been saying about flying to UK since two year ago but it never happened. I doubt it will happen this year as well. Sorry for not being helpful but thast is the fact. Kippy suggested a few flights and those are most problably the non-direct flight and generally cost around £100 - £150 cheaper.

they are direct flights prices that i quoted.

i was suggesting as an alternative emirates would be a stopover in dubai.

Have you thought about singapore? That's where i started off when i went to malaysia & Penang. (I however did visit all over malaysia) One place i would recommend is the cameron highlands! Loved it.

Hi,

You can fly with Jet Air ( Indian Based) If you travelled on 18th July and returned on the 18th August. It would cost you £527 includsive of taxes.

LHR 0930 -BKK 0650 (15hrs 30mins)
BKK 0840 -LHR 1755 (15hrs 15mins)

Internal flights are cheap in south east asia, but for the best experiences overnight trains with sleepers are the way to travel

Hope this helps

Roy

Hi, guys thanks for you replies. I finally booked 3 flights to bangkok with Oman Air. I booked them through opodo. Using thier 20 pound vouchers. Each return flight cost 438 pounds - 8.76 qudico so cost me around 430 pounds. Which i thought was cheap. 18 july - 8 august. Only problem is that its a connecting flight 5 hours and 20 mins in oman (muscat). But hopefully i can get them to let me into their lounge area. Thank again eveyone who helped.:thumbsup:

err ... i am guessing you stayed at the hotel and not ventured too far to see the real penang ... we went to penang twice already and stay with friends who are from there so we prolly saw a different side of penang.

This agent might be useful. I take regular trips to Bangkok, and they usually have very good deals!

Food = Penang
Shopping = KL
Historical Places = Melaka
Best seafood = Ipoh
Beaches = Pulau Langkawi or Redang ( nearby Malaysia... it's an island)
Best 'bak kut teh' (a must try, it's a type of dish with pork ribs and soup, very delicious) -Klang (nearby KL) :-D
hope u hv fun in Malaysia!
