    Banks or Building Societys

Are there any banks or building societys that look more favourable on people with bad credit rating?
any of them that would open an account for you to see how well you get on first by first applying online and getting an answer.

anyone been in the same position and managed to open an account knowing they had a bad rating from the past?

One of my friends managed to open an account at First Direct following being made bankrupt, that was a while ago, not sure if it is still the same, may be worth a try.

Otherwise, try posting the same question on MSE there are a lot of financial bods on there.

I think most banks will allow you to open a limited account, have a look at this, I hope it helps.

As a note to this debit cards are not that hard to come by, Ive had one through my doors today in the name of "Hugh Jarse"! Just change your name by deed and use your new name! Contrary to belief you dont need a solicitor to do this all you need is a blank template to use and the signature of someone who has known you for three years! I change mine every few months (out of boredom rather than financial purposes) its great when you are asked your name and people dont know if you are winding them up with names such as Hugh Jarse (my current one, or R.Lee Davidson, Johnny Walker, Jack Daniels, Arthur Itus, Bob T. Builder etc (all names ive used over the past two or three years) so long as you arent using it for illegal or criminal purposes you can change your name when you want!

All banks should offer a 'Basic bank account', they call them different things, but they are offered so that everyone has access to a bank account.

Lloyds TSB and Halifax definitely offer basic bank accounts

I dont know if you've got a Yorkshire Bank near you, but they offer a Readycash account, you dont need to be credit scored to get one and you get a maestro card as standard. hth

but surely you need to provide ID when applying for a bank account/ debit card, seems like a bit of a hassle getting id changed everytime you change your name. Unless your completely winding me up, and i kind of hope you are
