Bannatynes - what's the going rate? Here's my locals prices

I'm looking to join Bannatynes, but I don't want to pay a penny more than I have to.

    Here's what they've stated:

    Full membership: £58 / month £626.40 annual
Premier off peak: £49 / month or £529.20 annual
Off peak: £44 / month or £475 annual

Plus £10 for the swipe card.

The best option for me would be the full membership and to pay it annually which would bring the price down to £52/ month. I may as well pay it as Bannatynes never let anyone out of a 12 month contract anyway.

Has anyone got any cracking deals dealing with Bannatynes and if so how? Do you know of any bargaining tips? is it possible to negotiate with Bannatynes?

My local is on a municipal golf course, the facilities are good but I hate wasting money..... looking for advice PLEASE.... THANKS IN ADVANCE

oh ok, use the female ones then lol

just ring round the local ones and get quotes then phone up and see if they can do better, a friend of mine joined the one at meole and was not overly impressed with it

The thing is there are only really 3 comparable choices in Shrewsbury for facilities & pool each one is a fair distance from me, bar Bannatynes which I can cycle to.

Rowton Castle (mega bucks) (miles away)
Bannatynes (expensive) (can cycle to) Plus really good restaurant.
Welti (expensive) (8 mile round trip)

Cycle to Welti, circle the building and go back home, do that 3 times a week and get some weights from Argos. Use the saved money on a holiday. Job done.

    Thanks for that Super_leeds_86

I'm a qualified PT and I'm not looking to improve my cardio or base fitness, cycling on an unlit dual carriageway isn't really all that tempting. Until I've got the money to build a pool and enough space for an olympic barbell set and squat rack a gym will have to suffice.

I've been a member of Bannatynes for 6 years now. The last 18 months have seen the place go down hill quite a lot. When equipment is broken it takes ages to get fixed, most of the gym equipment is way past it's best. The changing rooms are cold and dirty. When you complain nothing gets done.

You're not wrong..... I've been a member the last 2 years and I will not be renewing in January.

They've started doing 3 month memberships so I've decided I'm going to rejoin in March, April, May have June, July, Aug off & return again for Sept, Oct, Nov so that way I can avoid Dec when other commitments mean you can't always go & the January rush.

Someone mentioned to me that it's the 2nd most expensive gym in the country. The cash cow that never get's any new equipment..... I used to go as a guest with my parents when it first opened. The gym equipment has never changed. They've just got some new kettle bells and box jump stands (as a result of pressure from the private PT's but nobody used the last set, never mind the new lot)

That's my training sorted..... I'll miss swimming at night when the pool is empty but that is it.

I've just signed up for the yearly membership with my girlfriend, we weren't told about the 3 monthly memberships!!... We had been using a gym in monk moor for the previous 2 years for a £20 monthly fee but felt that there was not enough equipment etc so decided to move on. Decided on bannatynes thinking it would be a bit more exclusive, how wrong we were!!! My girlfriend finds herself being leered at when in the pool by some foreign guys who seem to perch themselves on the loungers with the sole intention of ogling the women, the gym has been packed full every time we've been so constantly find ourselves standing around twiddling thumbs!!.. Anyone know how to get out of the contract as we think we have made a big mistake!!!

Sorry, but in two words "NO CHANCE" forums.moneysavingexpert.com/sho…php?t=1118379&page=5

*** Remember you have to give notice to cancel your contract, that way you won't get stung next year ***

The only way around this is to pay upfront with either cash or the full amount on a card, that way they don't have your direct debit details.

My advice for what it's worth and so you can get the most out of your membership would be this:

After work is a peak time, avoid it like the plague. The gym is open till 11PM weekdays and 10.30PM at the weekend, the later you go the less people you'll see. In the months running up to xmas there were no more than 6 people in the gym and 3 in the pool from 9-11pm. (It was a lot busier last night maybe 15 in total)

Honestly it's not a bad gym, use the pool often enough and it pays for itself.
