    Banned From Xbox Live

Now i bought a xbox 360 which is banned from xbox live, i thought i would try it anyway.

It has the modified firmware on it to play copied games, i do have some but i do have some legal bought games that i would want to play.

When i go to xbox live and click on it says "There is a firmware update for the xbox if you do not accept you will be signed out of box live"

Seeing as i have some copied games i dont really want to lose the firmware on it, would it overwrite it fully?

In my opinion i reakon it would! But the only way to find out .........

Not that i know, but logically i think it would, with most devices it upgrades the firmware to improve it so i think you would lose the modified firmware

depends whether it's softmodded or hardmodded but best left alone. It can only cause grief

LaoTzu its softmodded, thats what i thought cause more grief than needed.

Just thought i would play it more if i played online, bought Fifa from play.com and thought it would be a good laugh online.

I dont claim to understand this completely, but don't you alter the firmware on the DVD drive to softmod a 360? The firmware upgrade Live is offering you shouldn't effect that, however I think there is a system in place to detect and ban consoles with modded DVD firmware (probably how yours was banned in the first place). I'm not sure the firmware update from Live would wipe the firmware from the modded DVD drive... but try it at your own risk! personally I'd rather have the ability to game online than loads of copied games, its one of the best things about the 360!

If its been banned from xbox live you wont be able to play on it, Ever.

doing the upgrade or not you still won't be able to connect to live with it. You need to either sell it & get one thats not banned or live with the fact that you can get free games & usually before they hit the shops but you can't play them online.

That's a shame. Fifa is good online, a bit slow single player. Can't you sell it and get one that's not banned?

the_mayster, have you got a backup that i could borrow to see if i flashed my drive correctly

It is a dashboard update, nothing to do with the optical drive firmware that you had flashed. Go ahead and accept it. If the box is banned then thats that though.
