Barcelona tips if u please :-)

Just bagged a 1p flight to Barcelona... oops sorry I'm wrong... it was actually 2p return... lol

Anyhoo, off there next Saturday all on my own for a few days (don't worry... I'm a brave soul! I like to travel solo sometimes!)

Anyone got any tips? I've read up on the sights of course but I love personal recommendations.

I already have a place to stay and I've found a couple of veggie restaurants too so that's very handy for me! But any thoughts especially on having a bargain time (cheap or free things to do would be gr8) are much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance chaps!

Wednesdays: Reduced price entrance to most museums.
December: The annual Fira de Santa Llucia. A medieval type market in the cathedral square. Sells Christmas trees, Christmas decorations & nativity figures.
Visit Caves Cordorniu to see how the cava is made followed by a tasting. I have been and it is very interesting. Visits include a short film and a mini-train ride through the cellars. Open 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, Free admission. 9am-1pm Sat-Sun 1.5 euros. They have a shop on the way out but it is dearer than the supermarkets.
    Enjoy yourself.

    Hi Slinks
Took the family there at halloween. Great outdoor market down at barceloneta on sunday. The metro is terrific - buy your multi-tickets in 10s - and more than one person can use the same ticket as well. I used the double decker tour bus - you can buy a one or two day ticket and there are two routes - hop on, hop off from about 10.30 am 'til 10.30pm. The price (about 24 euros i think) includes a booklet of tickets with money off vouchers (entrance fees, lunches, that sort of thing). If you know you're not going to pay take the tour, pm me with your address and i'll send you one of my booklets - it might have an odd coupon missing, but they're valid until january. good luck

thanks you guys, will do the caves and markets for sure!

gerikelly, i'm actually staying in barceloneta right by the beach! so that market will be great for me.

Barceloneta (little barcelona) is an absolutely terrific place to stay. The whole main street is full of sea-food restaurants. You'll find little supermarkets in among the streets to buy your supplies. Will send you vouchers over the weekend. Have a great time. Geraldine

Oh i'm sooo jealous!! Hope you have a great time Slinks

If you get good weather, take a walk around Parc Guell. Designed by Gaudi and declared a monument of world interest since 1984. Free admission.
Metro line 3. Lesseps Station then follow the signs. A bit of a walk, all uphill, but worth it.

thanks hopper, am planning to go there anyway on my sister's advice! even better that it's free apparently the view is gorgeous!

Christmas at Montserrat is lovely. You can listen to the choir boys singing carols. Take a walk around the monastry and touch the Black Virgin. Only go if you really trust the driver, because the drive up is scarey. Don't plan on eating in the restaurant up there though, it is very expensive. Take a picnic. You will come out filled with the spirit of Christmas. And then be scared witless by the drive down!

thanks hopper!! i'm not there over christmas unfortunately. do they do this at other times in december do u know?

I expect so, but I'm not sure. I'll Google it and see what I can find out, if you are interested.

    oooh u r lovely

    thanku!

i'd love to go to the monk retreat - went to a buddhist retreat in australia last year and wished i'd stayed there for longer than a day - it was so peaceful. gonna have to read on now to find out if you can stay at the monk retreat

I am probably too late here with this, but thought I would mention it for any others in future:

Get a Day pass for the tourist buses - they cost around 17 Euro per person (this was the price in June 2005 when I went there) and this is a days pass for the the 4 four bus routes, Blue, Red, Green and another colour (can't remember that one).

These are jump on and jump off buses and take you around all of the major tourist sites, including the cathedral and the Nou Camp.

Buy the tickets at the bus stops, which are all over the place.

Anyway that is my 2 cents worth.

took the cable car from montjuic hill to san sebastian beach for about a fiver. great view!

spent the afternoon in ciutadella park - loads of stuff there to do as it houses the zoo, museums, galleries, churches and more as well as the park.

shopped in la rambla... had a fab view from the olympic stadium... watched the surfers at barceloneta...

now there's loads left for me to do next visit!!

the highlight of this trip had to be michael buble tho - amazing concert and when he decided to mingle with the audience i was within smelling distance!!! lol ; he was just 6 inches away from me whooppppeeeeee
