Basic 3g phone for elderly user

I am looking to move an elderly relative to the Three 321 pay as you go tariff for her to use to call friends whilst in hospital. She currently has a basic nokia on a vodafone pay as you go sim (seems to be 30p per min). I was looking to move her onto the 321 tariff but this will require a 3g phone.

I planned to go and pick something up from town tomorrow but I can't really seem to see a basic (non-touch screen) feature phone that has 3g.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Either for a basic 3g phone or another 2g pay and go tariff?

My wifes grandad has a similar model to that they are great his has a programmable emergency button on the back so if he has a fall he only has to press and hold that button for 3 seconds and it will dial her mum up!.

Looks great, fairly expensive but I guess it's a niche market phone. Thanks for pointing it out.

Not sure if 3G but worth a look through

Think this is the phone mentioned earlier with button on the back

This is pretty good as it has a different screen menu that makes it easier to use:

if you go down an android phone route you could put on a launcher such as big launcher. it removes many options and makes the phone much simpler to use.

worth a thought

yeah some of them can be pricey but if they do the job well then I guess it's money well spent. I've seen non techie family members give on IT they cannot use.

As you say free onesto try and decide on

You dont need a 3g phone for three 123 tariff on pay as you go to make calls only, Just get a 123 sim and try it in their phone should work ok

How about Giffgaff?

This would be great, if in stock: amazon.co.uk/MIN…TF8

I got my mum simple Samsung flip phone on 2g as all the Internet connection will just confuse her.

Thanks for all the suggestions. In the end I got her an Alcatel One 20.12 argos.co.uk/sta…htm on Virgin with the Big Talk Pay and Go plan (unlimited landline calls, 120 min mobile and £10 credit for a £10 topup). The phone has very big buttons a nice clear screen and most of all is very basic.

I considered an Android phone with a basic launcher but there would still be a chance of her getting into the main system and getting confused.
