Battery on Asus Lap Top Problem

I have an Asus lap top, about 2 years old and the shop where I bought it isn't there any more, typical. The power cable failed and I didn't realise until I had used all the battery power up and it wouldnt switch on, so I got a new lead from PC world and all was ok, now when the power cable accidentely falls out the computer just stops running and turns off it doesn't switch to battery power, I have checked the battery power thing in the settings and it is saying it is full. Any help or advice on why it doesn't automatically switch over to battery or what to do would be really appreciated please. There used to be a little power for battery icon on the bottom blue bar but it isn't there any longer either. Help! ty x

Try taking the battery out and then connecting the mains without the battery, then once booted re-insert the battery. If no luck it's possible the battery has failed, they only charge a certain number of times before they dont charge up anymore. Search the net for a compatable replacement in that case.
