Electronic Arts today announced that Battlefield 1943 will be available on July 8th on Xbox Live Marketplace and July 9th on the PlayStation Network.

Battlefield 1943 is an all-new download-only action game that brings DICEs first-class vehicular warfare to gamers for £9.99, or 1200 MS Points.

Here's the lowdown:

Battlefield 1943 is a critically acclaimed First-Person Shooter (FPS) multiplayer game that puts players in the middle of a dogfight on land, sea or in the skies. The game introduces two new modes that can be played across four classic Battlefield tropical WWII maps: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Coral Sea. These maps are inspired by the award winning Battlefield 1942 game, but have been redesigned and reengineered using the DICE destructible Frostbite engine which takes down walls, blockades and cover spots, leaving players with almost nowhere to hide.

The Coral Sea map will be unlocked as part of a worldwide community challenge, where players will work together to reach 43million kills on both Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network. To help gamers reach that goal, up to 24 players can play together online in countless matches. They will have the freedom to compete by land, air and sea as either the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy. Whether they choose to play the role of a rifleman crawling through the trenches, a steel-fisted tank commander, or a dog fighting ace pilot, gamers will have the power to rule the battlefield.

Battlefield 1943 is going to change consumer expectations of what a downloadable game can be. By offering Frostbites next generation destruction technology with a full Vehicle Warfare FPS multiplayer experience at a mere 560MB, Battlefield 1943 sets a new standard, said Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943.Our goal is to blow people away with a fully accessible, retail-calibre game for veteran Battlefield fans and shooter fans alike to enjoy for only £9.99.

Drat i have 5000 points and my live account has expired, time to get a new sub, like the look of this game a lot

i cant wait

It looks like they're just splitting up BF1942 and reselling it? I hope the PC version will be compatible with the full game.

They said 800 in the interview I saw they specifically mentioned 800 based on the expectations of 1200

Wow, those screenshots bring back some happy memories. 1942 is my favourite in the series, nice to see it brought back with a lick of paint.

Yeah, I just bought some points specially for this. Should keep me going until Left 4 Dead 2 comes out.

Anyone going to be playing this on PS3 Thursday night? - hopefully I'll be able to download it in time, before my freakin ISP chokes my bandwidth (usually starts about 6pm)

Add me if you are up for a game - flamingcarrot

EDIT:

Just seen it has picked up a 9/10 review @ Edge - looking good!

I played for about 2 hours last night - thought it was very good. A bit confusing at first, but once I got my head around the maps, I was rolling. Love the authentic feel of the weapons - recoil etc. The maps are huge, with loads of sneaky pathways etc.

I agree that the planes are a pain in the rear. I thought I was the red baron until I gracefully flew straight into the lighthouse :whistling: Love the bombers though.

Well worth the price of admission I reckon (gonna have a few sneaky games at lunchtime today too ;-))

..........oh, and the PSN servers are working perfectly too (better than 360 for a change) - straight into a game, and only one laggy experience (lasted about 2 minutes)

Played the trial yest and loved it, going to upgrade to the full tonight. Just need to get some mates on board too

Was going to buy it when i got home from work but thought i would test the trial again see if i could play some more for free.. cant connect. From reading online it would seem that its a problem with AOL throtteling.

gggrrrrr!

I occasionally have problems connecting to the EA servers in Bad Company - if I reboot my router it seems to cure the problem (touch wood)

Just make sure you set DHCP and enable upnp in your router and hope it's one of the good implementations of upnp. Take away any firewall settings / port forwarding you have done for a static IP or a MAC address and take IP out of DMZ if you did it that way.

With 1 ps3 you should have no trouble (router dependant) also check firmware of router on manufacturers website for a newer one and follow instructions to update (check read me for list of things fixed even if your issues is not covered in any of the firmware fixes does not mean it will not fix or help) By the same token it has been known that a firmware fix for one thing breaks another normal operating feature.

What modem/router are you using > ?

Thought there might be a 1943 thread on here...

i'm loving this game. Spending more time on this than i have on any other game in a long time.

full of random moments too - there was about 10 guys last night stood on their own ship hacking at each other with blades....brilliant.

Sorry, you lost me after "just make sure that..........." :?

I am using a Netgear router DG834G

To be honest, I fiddled around with DMZ and firewall settings for a while, following various guides, but I am no expert, and nothing seemed to make a lot of difference. It was just BF:BC connections that were a problem, and like I say, the old reboot seemed to do the trick - perhaps the IT equivalent of hitting the TV with your shoe?!

My PS3 keeps saying UPnP is not possible even when I set it to 'on' on the router - not sure why? I don't tend to get a lot of issues with online play. No real lag or anything, and generally no problems getting into games, just occassionally with the EA servers. I do tend to get disconnected from the PSN though, maybe once every two hours. Not sure if this is a PSN, router or ISP (tiscali!) problem................

Do you think I need to alter any settings on the router/PS3?

UPnP is set off, but like I say, the PS3 doesn't seem to pick up on this anyway. "Use Router as DCHP server" is ticked on my router settings, under LAN IP set up.

Any help would be appreciated, especially if you think my disconnects could be avoided.

I have a few versions of the netgear 834 and none of them as of last firmware I used (I gave up as Netgear support kept escalating it up and none of them had a clue I suspect they gave the cleaner a new phone)anyways non had a working Upnp (as mentioned in previous post not many do)

General issues are not being able to join certain games your friends are playing and not being able to chat etc.

With upnp not working you should set your ip on the ps3 to being STATIC (not DHCP anymore)

eg set DHCP to no in router if no other devices in your house obtain an ip addy) [best to leave on.. only turn off to rule out why ps3 not working as should or other device)

anyways assign an ip in your ps3 as being non dhcp eg static 192.168.2.10 (change 2 to 1 eg you must be using same range)

this could be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 (etc)

subnet 255.255.255 and whatever gateway is as above 192.168.0.1 or 1.1 or 2.1 ( do not give ps3 0.1 or 1.1 or 2.1

Then whatever ip you pick say 192.168.2.10 you need to set up firewall, port forwarding (which is why best to use static ip as dhcp might/will assign various ip to your ps3 therefore you would have to cover whole ip range in port forwarding)

so in port forwarding you need to create a rule to open port 80 tcp , then another rule to open port 443 tcp and another rule for 5223 tcp

then for UDP
3478
3479
3658 should also be opened for voice chat.
and 5223

portforward.com/eng…htm

as above but use the ports for ps3

Or buy a dlink 624-m dsl modem/router and use UPNP .. thats works with 2 or more 360/PS,s or a belkin 7633-4a and enable upnp that also works with 2 or more 360's ps3's or get a dlink 634 router (you would need your own modem) or a zyxel 660hw-1 that also works using 2 pr more 360's/ps3's

If you take pot luck and just buy any modem/ router always use DHCP in router / ps3 and use UPNP in router ....and test it (try and buy from somewhere you would find easy to take back) then buy a different one eventually you will find one that works as intended (sometimes you need to make sure they are using a certain firmware though as things get fixed)

Check with Netgear and look to see if there has been a firmware update for your modem/router maybe they have fixed upnp since I last tried (take care with the firmware and check which VERSION 834 you really have ...look at sticker underneath for v1 v2 v3 as you need to match netgear firmware to version from their site)

So taking everything onboard you might be better off buying a new one from one of the ones I listed try and to get a good deal as they are 1-2-3 years old tech wise although they all do adsl2+

Thanks for the advice dontasciime - I will work through your options as see what happens.

You can't use a UK registered card to purchase stuff from the Jap or US store, as far as I am aware. Does the same not apply to the Aus store?
