BBC - Slumdog Millionaire child actress's home in fire

    Bit sad really

    bbc.co.uk/new…792

    Info from Wikipedia:
Slumdog Millionaire's Gross revenue was around $377 million.
The 2 main child actors in the film were paid around £500 for their month's worth of work, and also had trust funds set up for access when they turned 18.

Just thought I'd post this, as it's quite sad how 2 years on from the film's huge success, one of the main people who made the film what it was is still living in the slums.

They probably got loads of stick from people in the local area, could even be arson. £500 is enough to make you the equivalent of a millionaire in those areas, but not enough to get you out of such an area. Great business plan though, make a film about poor people using real poor people, pay them a pittance, and make millions at the box office.

    Blame their agents.

But seriously, it's called showBUSINESS and the whole point of Indian labour is it's cheapness.

Someone should make a stink about this.

You have a point, but doesn't make it right. I guess that's just the world we live in, with exploitation being all around us. (e.g. I love my iPhone, but know how little the Chinese factory workers who made it get paid and how crappy they must get treated).

I guess with this child, the difference is she wasn't just another worker, but was pretty much the star of the show. One can only imagine how others profited and lined their pockets from the films success.

    They had been watching television

yet to move into a new apartment

Hardly on the breadline I'd say.....how many in the slums can say they have even one of the above items never mind the luxury of both.
