BBC to screen man's final moments

    Banned
No, I don't agree with this.

"The death of an 84-year-old man is to be broadcast on BBC One next month as part of a new series about the life cycle of the human body."

    Two reasons:

    A) Deaths are rarely 'peaceful' so this will give a false impression of how people die - it'll give credence to the fact that we all die peacefully and go to heaven.

    B) Death is a pretty sacred thing (don't you think?). To know someone is dead is good enough for me, I don't want to see it actually happen.

I have never been scared of dying, I get scared of leaving the kids, but my death doesn't scare me.

I found my Elderly neighbour who was like a grandma to me, I found her dead in her chair, that did scare me. Was told it was instant, Poor lady was half way through making her cup of tea, must of sat down with a biscuit and went.

I don't think its right to film someone dying though.

I am assuming that the gentleman in question must have had to give consent for this?

I was never scared until my other half told me how the majority of people she seen die actually die.
It's horrifying. This will simply make it look all nice and peaceful, which is very rarely the case.

Yeah, they went around to hospices and cancer charities to ask for volunteers.

many people, especially the older ones on here will have watched at least one grandparent/parent die unfortunately-Im in 2 minds about the televising of such an event tbh-its one thing when its a close relative,a bit impersonal when its a complete stranger. Wouldnt personally choose to watch this, but Im not in any way offended by it-if people want to watch, and the family concerned have consented then fair enough I spose.

I agree with this, it's something that happens to us all and watching it wont have any outcome on how the viewer dies. Peacefully or otherwise. If it makes them feel more at ease about dying then so be it. Personally I don't agree that people rarely die peacefully.

Couldn't that be a good thing though? I mean on the flip side couldn't this bring comfort to lots of people, especially for those who know someone old or close to death, if it is indeed portrayed that way? Most people havent *Actually* seen someone die i wouldn't of thought

Sorry looking back that was a bit of a dumb question to ask...

I do wonder what the purpose of televising this really is. I don't find it offensive, but I wonder if this is just another case of pushing boundaries in broadcasting, and ultimately a way to attract more viewers.

Probably - but the reason they are showing is is because; "it was important not to shy away from talking about death and, when it's warranted, showing it".

    It's not being honest.

See animals dying on tv all the time, why not a human
tbh the show sounds boring, would be better if they killed him in the style of "Saw"

maybe he is getting some money to leave his family?

if you dont like it dont watch

Death is a sacred thing? To whom you? If so you are clearly a trolling joke "liking" the troll comment of a fellow HUKDer in the Poly Styrene thread...you hypocrite.

Jebus, you need to calm down - you'll give yourself a heart attack (maybe someone could film it?) X)

What has my liking a post that asked who Poly Styrene is got anything to do with me being hypocritical by posting this? Get an education.

I for one will be watching with my pants down

I don't think we should watch someones last moments, voyeuristic for the sake of the media seeking to make entertainment out of it. Their family and friends might be really upset about it.

No I didn't what? Like the post? Your anger is stopping you from making any sense at all.

Go and calm down, get a biscuit from your mummy, and come back a little more chilled so you can explain what it is you're trying to say.

Personally I don't think death is at all sacred. It's just part of the life cycle - and is no different to birth. I'm not offended by seeing either (and yes, I have seen both in person).

If it is presented from a scientific perspective I think it's fine. Similarly, I think that the live autopsy of a human which was shown on TV a while ago was fine to broadcast - it was informative.

Sorry to hear they have passed away.

best reply is numptys ,,lol,,............... death is all part of who we are and were , all deaths are not horrifying as was stated in one post earlier ,whoever his wife is caring for , may say a bit more about the care recieving as they are passing away, there are some bad deaths in pain and anguish ,but not all people going out screaming and so ,i been in medicine now for 20 odd years and not seen anymore than one terrible passing and that was down to a road traffic accident

Trying to twist things around now are you? As others who were sad to hear a legend has passed didn't like the sarcastic comment about calling the samaritans because of it, you liked it...plain and simple.

on the whole ,the only thing people will see will be the cessation of the organs leading to the death and a lil bit of palor mortis that is all , there wont be any obduction or so

Of course it makes sense. You've lied and its been pointed out exactly where you have. Your claim about liking a post asking "who was she" is false. Instead, you chose to like a post suggesting the Samaritans should be called. Maybe with this "sacred" view you have about death, you were just thinking it might be a good thing to be doing instead of starting these nonsense threads? So much for "hard work"!

I expect you'll now need to comeback with some sort of childish put down....... oh wait!

As far as the documentary is concerned, the person gave permission and probably got paid (and now has a heirloom to pass on)... and its created debate on a shopping forum. And numpty is going to get his rocks off. Clearly its a masterstoke by the beeb.

Death is a sacred thing and should not be portrayed in any manner, even fictional.

I'm also totally against dead bodies being desecrated for 'science' or having organs removed and shoved into other people, even if they've given consent.

But seriously, I'm all for this. Death happens. De-mystifying it can only be good for those who believe in assisted suicide.

death is part and parcel of life funnily enough, to hide and enshroud it in myster shouldnt be happening , people can see a lot more horrifying or distressing things in life than death , which as i said earlier is more or less a peaceful passing rather than wailing and the throes of horror at the end

and being desecrated for science may one day save a member of your family or someone elses family who require treatment or intervention from advances made on medical investigatiions of diseases

Let's not pretend that death isn't screened daily on the news. I've seen JFK's head blown off numerous times, 3000 people murdered on 9/11, a few cars and people swept away in Japan last month, the list goes on. In fact this will be a quite uneventful passing compared to them.
