    Be careful when you are buying a dell vostro laptop!

    I ordered a dell vostro 1700, and the delivery was very bad as the vostro range is separate from dell. The screen was completely ruined, as the screen was seemed to have been sat on so the plasma in the screen had moved. I also had trouble returning it. Dell laptops are very good, but i would advise against buying the laptops from the vostro range.

    I had a bad experience here and i hope that none else who reads this has to suffer this kind of experience either.

    Ive got a Vostro 1500 and delivery was sound, well packaged unmarked packaging. I do feel the build quality to be ok but slightly flimsy but thats probably me being over critical as the only other laptop ive had experience of was a older toughbook so to make a comparison between the two on build quality would be harsh!

    If your screen is broken when you received it, I don't see why you cannot return it. I ordered a Vostro 1500 before and they replaced the whole laptop because it was faulty. So if it is their fault, I'm sure they'll replace it.

    Could you be more specific please? My neighbour called Dell UK when he purchased his & it was delivered by Dell & their carrier as far as he knows.

    Dell laptops are very good, but i would advise against buying the laptops … Dell laptops are very good, but i would advise against buying the laptops from the vostro range.


    As Slash mentions, the fact that the screen was ruined is not Dell's fault directly but the carrier's - & their/Dell's responsibility to replace it with a good one.

    And, possibly more importantly, this doesn't reflect on the Vostro range at all. My neighbour's Vostro 1700 with a TrueLife screen is outstanding.

    Vostro range is made by Dell. No computer is made by Dell and called just Dell, it has a name infront e.g. Dimension, Inspiron, Vostro, XPS.

    Call up Dell to arrange for it to be transferred with a new laptop.

    I bought a Vostro 1700 6 months ago and had no problems from start to finish.

    I guess sometimes you can be unlucky have a bad experience but that should not reflect on the product overall for everyone else.

    Got my Vostro 1700 a couple of weeks ago, arrived by UPS in a sturdy box with not a mark on it. Sounds like the 1 problem in a field of joy.

    Dell delivery shocking. I am still waiting to receive my Vostro 1700. Ordered it 2 weeks ago, and Dell sent an e-mail stating they would deliver on or before 17 April. Got an email today saying it'll be with me on or before 19 May. To think they charge £60 for delivery when it takes 7 weeks to get you something. On their website they say the Vostro 1700 is not a model currently experiencing delays and is delivered in 5-6 working days, not 7 weeks! This does not suggest Dell care very much about providing their customers a decent service.

    Sounds like a shipment of components didn't arrive when they expected to. Did you order anything unusual?

    You're right - I called them on their lovely 0870 number and was told the delay is due to a shipment of memory and hard drives that has not arrived. I didn't order anything unusual at all - I went for the model they recommended. It really ought to say on their website that there will be prolonged delivery on this model, not "5/6 busines days". Anyway it's good to hear you've got a Vostro 1700 and it's good!
