    Becoming a parent

Thought i'd say hello on misc forum.. also share some thoughts with you..

I'm 25, wife is 24... Been together around 3-4 years and we are about to have our first child.. When i say 'About' - Wifes contractions started (very painful) at 8pm last night, got to around 5mins at 3am - slowed a bit since.. Started to come closer together again today.. So not long now.

To be honest, i think i've been walking through the clouds a little bit ever since she became pregnant.. Never really acknowledged it.. Still went out with the lads as normal.. Only occasional inconvience was wife burning a hole through my credit card every time she went shopping (£400 for a damn 3 in 1 travel system pram thing) etc.

It's now hitting me like a ton of bricks. I'm sure flights to mexico are going cheap due to the swine flu, any links? ;).

    welcome to HUKD

good luck with the imminent arrival of baby x x

Yup - it does hit you, and won't hit you properly until your stood there holding him/her in your arms - and then again when you finally bring them home.

Good luck - were 9 months down the line - and honestly - it gets easier. (So many people say it - you won't believe it - but it does.)

3 in 1 travel system lol, you'll use it for like 6 months then move to a buggy, waste of cash, but been there done that burnt my cash too.

You'll enjoy every day of your life from now on, trust me having kids is the wake up call you need

    Turn's into a pram aswell..

See this worries me even more, give your men some freedom ;). I haven't been out drinking with the lads for 7 weeks, as i've been banned from that point till baby was born.. Desperately need a night out.

I managed to book in a weekend out 2 weeks after baby is born, convinced wife to go to her parents for that weekend.. It did take a big bunch of flowers and sex in the city boxsets as a prezzy to convince her though.

when baby comes u havent a hope of getting a night out for a veryyy long time lol

risk it and you'll be in so much deep doodahs lol

...And when was the last time she went out drinking with the lasses? Prob more than 7 weeks ago eh?! Get yourself out to "wet the babies head" in a couple of weeks, and once you're both in a routine with your new baby things will get back to normal. Ish.

You'll both need to have space now and then, she's probably feeling pretty rubbish at the moment aswell so appreciate that you'll need to takeover sometimes and let her have a bit of time to herself.

And you being banned from drinking 7 weeks before due date might seem harsh to you, but when you're pregnant with your first baby and every twinge sets you thinking you're going into labour, she probably just wants to know that you'll be there and by her side when it finally happens.

Not for a travel system it isn't.

Congrats. Listen, as a new dad myself, it will take a while to get to grips with the shock of the whole thing, and adjust your lifestyle as well.

However, there are so many moments ahead of you that will justify the sacrifices you're gonna have to make - treasure them all.

Good luck and congrats when the new arrival comes.

See my wife uses that excuse 'When was the last time i went out' - but i've not stopped her.. She's not wanted to go out due to being pregnant. Not my fault is it ;). Plus she doesn't drink alchol anyway, so she hasn't missed much.

Plus all my family live abroad, hers don't.. So i need my friends, as i'm only one out of mine that still lives in England.

    Grow a pair son.

When I was pregnant every cigarette my hubby smoked, every alcoholic drink he drank, even coffee ( ewww the smell ), peeved me off terribly lol

Yeah definitely - When she was in pain on Friday i surpized her by taking a half day and booked her in at an acupuncturists for a session to help pain relief and help bring on labour. Not idea if that stuff works, but she can out feeling very relaxed so was definitely worth it. I'd recommend that to anyone who is close to the end, wife went from sluggish and no energy to feeling a hell of allot better when she came out.

Was the first time she had tried it.

Kind of yes, kind of no.. We were trying for 2-3 months and nothing happened.. Then unfortunately i lost my job (redundancy). So she was going to go back on the pill - Week later we found out she was pregnant. Bit stressful that one lol.. Found another job though, just meant moving.
