Bed sharing 'bad for your health'

Couples should consider sleeping apart for the good of their health and relationship, say experts.

Sleep specialist Dr Neil Stanley told the British Science Festival how bed sharing can cause rows over snoring and duvet-hogging and robs precious sleep.

One study found that, on average, couples suffered 50% more sleep disturbances if they shared a bed.

Dr Stanley, who sleeps separately from his wife, points out that historically we were never meant to share our beds.

I heard that some builders are now building houses with two master bedrooms/ensuites for couples who prefer to have seperate rooms.

I think its the nicest thing in the world to sleep naked so close to someone you dont know where they end and you begin... it's just intimacy and togetherness.

Makes sense. Just because you're married to someone, doesn't mean you have to have the same sleeping habits.

Maybe some people don't trust their partners if they're in a whole other bedroom:p

it's not a question of trust, just intimacy.

Historically we were never meant to share our beds??? Where did that come from??

I think that sleep disturbances is probably one of the reasons for bed sharing.:whistling: :-D

Seriously - it's not rocket science, that your sleep might be disturbed in some way if you share a bed.

Which is different for different people.

Why not have a whole bed to yourself, rather than having to put up with someone maybe getting up in the middle of the night, or rolling over and waking you?

because its nice to have someone moving next to you x x

    For me, anyway x

Hated sharing a bed with my kids Dad, but then I guess hating him was a big part of that. Loved sharing a bed with my ex and find sleeping alone difficult..I still sleep on 'my side' even though different house and new bed, and I dont like going to sleep, it takes me ages. With the right person it is the most coforting feeling ever, I'm sure of that. x

Have shared a bed not just with who you'd expect but also with my own kiddies and as a teen with friends. It's nice you can get so close you can whisper away until you fall asleep.

With at least a couple of my friends I remember waking up in the morning and having to throw out the empty wine bottles to get close to each other for a cuddle lol x
