well im not literally banging my head , but my head feels like its been banging on a wall as i've been concentrating on all this techie talk i dont fully understand.
and i have a xbox360 also but its away from crimbo for my boy .:)

Phone/e-mail Sony about it?

Have a look at this page Katya

uk.gamespot.com/pag…313

or this one

ftatalk.com/sho…014

If neither of those work for you then Google your problem as it seems it's a very common problem. The answer is out there I would have thought

I googled : ps3 80710102 dns error

If you ring Sony or your ISP then they'll talk you through it.

Original Poster

would virgin media really be able to sort this as normally they just pass it off to something else when i have rang them about stuff before.

Sloth/Mod

Virgin Media will help. Especially if you are lucky enough to get the Swansea call centre and not India.

I meant what OS and version, wired/wireless, router etc?

There will be an option somewhere in the networking setup that'll let you manually enter the details for your network, or let the PS3 do it all automatically. Automatic might be called DHCP, which is a technical trick that lets the PS3 and your router arrange your IP address (which is sort-of like a house address - every device on a network needs to have one, so every other part of the network knows where to send data).

Try setting the networking to automatic, and reboot the PS3 and the router.

If that doesn't work, try manually configuring the PS3's networking setup. Use these settings:

IP Address - 192.168.2.103
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.2.1
DNS - 194.168.4.100

Reboot the PS3 and the router, and try again. If it still fails, try

IP Address - 192.168.2.103
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.2.1
DNS - 194.168.2.4

Hopefully, one of these combinations should coax it into life, anyway.

its vista sp1 home. wireless , belkin router mimo G+ F5D9230-4

is ps3 near router? if so, then just connect an ethernet lead as saves so much trouble (and its faster). They are very cheap to buy.

I trust you have tried this.

turn everything off.

turn on modem and wait 30 secs

turn on router and wait 30 secs

turn on pc

when booted, turn on ps3 and do an automatic scan and try to connect to the connection it finds.

if still errored, then try temporarily removing the security on your router and see if ps3 works

google also found this (if above fails) :-

Fix for PS3 DNS error 80710102
1. Get your network information by going to your home ]computer and hit START, RUN and type in CMD
2. You'll get the Command screen (like the old DOS screen) and type in IPCONFIG/ALL, write down ALL the information given.
3. On your PS3 when setting up to connect to the internet select MANUAL or CUSTOM instead of AUTOMATIC.
4. Enter the information you wrote down and just keep following the prompts.

It should connect now.

yes it sees my ssid and logs in my ip but then fails to go any further.
i have tried the scan option and it just goes to error every time after the ip connects. :x

Banned

so when you scan, it sees your wireless connection? It should automaticaly get IP settings etc. You sure you are putting in the correct SSID (check your router admin page)?

You can also turn WEP/WPA security off on the router admin page.

log into 192.168.0.1/ (probably)

password / login name is probably admin

Original Poster

I think i have sorted it, i turned off my firewall on my router , also made a new user on PlayStation network and done a automatic scan for all settings, and low and behold the damned thing signed in !! spent 3 days battling this really cant belive that the playstation is so hard to set up , also notice there are many many error codes people are getting whist playing games.
Thanks for all your help rep left .
